Forest Stewards

​​​​Forest Stewards tend to young trees in the Presidio’s reforestation areas. Learn about urban forestry and arboriculture, while assisting with forest maintenance through planting, weeding, mulching, and other stewardship activities.​


Every Friday, 9 am to Noon

​Meeting Location

Meet at the Presidio Transit Center on the bay-facing side of the building a few minutes prior to the start of the program for a prompt 9:00 am departure. Volunteers will be shuttled by van to the project site.​

​How To Participate

Individuals, families, and groups of four or fewer are welcome to attend without prior registration and no long-term commitment is required. Simply show up at the meeting location, sign-in and submit a completed volunteer agreement form.

Groups of five or more must register in advance. Please visit our Group Service Projects page for details.

This program fulfills most community service requirements.

Age & Skill-level Guidelines:

All ages are welcome. If bringing youth under age 15, please read the Families and Youth Policy Guidelines​.

No experience is necessary. Training will be provided, as well as all necessary tools, supplies, and gloves.

What to Wear & What to Bring:

Be prepared for variable and unpredictable weather conditions. Our programs happen rain or shine! Please bring your own rain gear, if necessary.

Please wear clothes that can get dirty, and dress in layers. Long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes are required (no shorts or sandals). Bring a hat and/or sunglasses, and wear sunscreen.

Bring a reusable water bottle. Water stations will be available for refills.

Bring a completed volunteer agreement form.
