Forestry and Trails

​​​​Forest Stewards tend to young trees in the Presidio’s reforestation areas. Learn about urban forestry and arboriculture, while assisting with forest maintenance through planting, weeding, mulching, and other stewardship activities.

Trail Stewards help m​aintain and enhance park trails and pathways. Volunteers help us maintain a world-class trail system for the community to enjoy for now and forever.

Every Friday, 9 am to Noon

​Meeting Location

Meet at the Presidio Transit Center for a prompt 9:00am departure. Volunteers will be shuttled by van to the project site.

Please bring the completed forms to the project (first visit only):

​How To Participate

Individuals, families, and groups of four or fewer are welcome to attend without pre-registration. Simply show up at the meeting location, sign-in and submit a completed volunteer agreement form.

Groups of five or more must register in advance. Please visit our Group Service Projects page for details.

This program fulfills most community service requirements.

Age & Skill-level Guidelines:

All ages are welcome. If bringing youth under age 15, please read the Youth and Family Guidelines.

No experience is necessary. Training will be provided, as well as all necessary tools, supplies, and gloves.

What to Wear & What to Bring:

Be prepared for variable and unpredictable weather conditions. Our programs happen rain or shine! Please bring your own rain gear, if necessary.

Please wear clothes that can get dirty, and dress in layers. Long pants and sturdy closed-toe shoes are required (no shorts or sandals). Bring a hat and/or sunglasses, and wear sunscreen.

Bring a reusable water bottle. Water stations will be available for refills.

Bring a completed volunteer agreement form.
