Living Poetry (Grades 8-12)

How do the deaths of young American soldiers impact our perceptions of war? Living Poetry focuses on the casualties of war through the poem “The Young Dead Soldiers” by Archibald MacLeish. Students experience the poetic voices in the poem and explore the impacts of war. This program includes a walk and site visit to the San Francisco National Cemetery in the Presidio. Students work collaboratively while making connections to the young soldiers who sacrificed their lives.

*To better prepare the students for the program, one of our educators facilitates a pre-lesson prior to your visit. Once you are registered for your program, we will work with you to find a suitable time.
