Habitat Heroes (Grades K-8)

Want to make a difference in your National Park? Through this experiential education program, youth participate in meaningful community service while building their classroom community. Youth will learn about the natural and cultural history of the park, engage in projects that meet real habitat restoration needs within the park, and reflect on their impact.

Program components include:

  • In-class pre-visit presentation - Presidio educators will orient students to the project objectives and park/site history. Students will prepare for their visit with a pre-service writing reflection.
  • Service-Learning project - Students will engage in hands-on habitat care in the park. They will help to restore the Presidio's natural areas and protect threatened and endangered species through activities such as invasive plant removal, planting, watering, and debris clearing.

All necessary tools for project will be provided. Students are encouraged to bring a re-useable water-bottle. Because our programs are provided at no cost, we prioritize applications from high needs schools using data from CALPADS.
