Sections of Park Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail Closed to Dog Walking

To reduce the potential for coyote/dog conflict, we’ve proactively closed large sections of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail to dog walking. This annual closure is temporary; we’ll reopen these trails to dog walking in fall after pupping season ends. All 24 miles of hiking trails in the Presidio are open to people.

Schools and Youth Groups

Teachers and youth group leaders – come make the Presidio a classroom for your kids.

Learning comes alive at the Presidio, where kids can connect in hands-on ways with history and nature.

The Presidio – along with the entire Golden Gate National Recreation Area – is a classroom where young people can have experiences that grow their minds and expand their horizons. A variety of opportunities are offered by the Presidio Trust, the National Park Service, and Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy.

A very popular experience is youth group visits to Presidio Tunnel Tops, where kids can play and discover at the Outpost playground and the Field Station. And the Monarch Week program creates an avenue for underrepresented communities to experience national park camping at Rob Hill.

Additionally, teachers and youth group leaders can bring their kids to the Presidio for self-guided adventures, from nature hikes to museum field trips guided by resources for teachers.
