The Presidio Trust Announces 2015 Winter Programming Events

​Presidio of San Francisco (December 23, 2014) – The Presidio Trust today announced its programming and event lineup for the winter 2015 season, which kicks off in January, 2015. The programs will be a diverse offering of live music, special events, cultural dialogues and family-friendly craft-making activities. Programming and performances are free and open to the public and inspired by the Presidio’s rich natural and cultural heritage. Events and programming are largely hosted at the newly reopened Officers’ Club, a former private military gathering place recently transformed into a cultural destination for the public.

“We are excited to share the next season of free public programming at the Presidio,” said Presidio Trust Executive Director, Craig Middleton. “Our inaugural season was a big hit with the public – and a lot of fun. We are thrilled to offer a robust variety of free events that enlighten, engage and entertain.”

​The programming and event schedule includes special events, rotating art exhibits,live music spanning across cultures, unique dialogues with notable figures as well as regularly scheduled art hikes, volunteer opportunities, Off the Grid picnics and imaginative craft making activities for kids. Some highlights include:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Blues: ​Marcus Shelby and his trio present this special interactive performance and discussion about the role of music during the Civil Rights Movement, Jan. 15, 2015
  • Lost Landscapes of San Francisco: Familiar and unseen archival film clips showing San Francisco as it was and is no more, Jan. 29, 2015
  • An evening with Patricia Ward Kelly, wife and biographer of Gene Kelly, the legendary dancer, director and choreographer, Jan. 31, 2015
  • A performance by the award-winning Friction Quartet, one of the Bay Area’s most radical new music ensembles featured in San Francisco Bay Guardian’s 2014 On the Rise issue, Feb. 6, 2015
  • Valentine’s ​Day Sock Hop with music by The Ely Brothers The Doubletake Band, performances by The Jitterbugs, dance tutorials and cocktails from Arguello, Feb. 14, 2015
  • Tequila 101 with Chef Traci Des Jardin and mixologist Enrique Sanchez of Arguello, Mar. 5, 2015
  • We Players’ Ondine at Sutro: a sneak peek into the upcoming project, which will take place on and around the ruins of the old bath house at Lands’ End and the beautiful Sutro Heights Park. Performance, demonstration and conversation, Thursday, March 19
  • Off the Grid Picnic at the Presidio, Every Sunday, Mar. 1 – Nov. 1, 2015 and Off the Grid Twilight at the Presidio, Every Thursday, Apr. 2 – Oct. 29, 2015
  • Family-friendly shadow puppet performance and workshop, Mar. 7, 2015
  • Imaginative craft-making based on the Presidio’s natural and cultural heritage including maritime lessons, world heritage and national reading month, Saturdays and Sundays, best for kids ages 5 to 12

The winter program schedule runs January through March 2015. Events are free, open to the public, and sponsored by the Presidio Trust in partnership with cultural institutions from across the Bay Area.
