PRESIDIO OF SAN FRANCISCO, CA – October 25, 2017 – The Inn at the Presidio is honored to be the recipient of Historic Hotels of America 2017 Award of Excellence for Sustainability Champion. Award recipients were selected from nominees received from historic hotels, preservation supporters, and leadership from Historic Hotels of America. As the first hotel located within San Francisco’s Presidio, a national park site, the Inn is a model of the high standards of sustainability to which the Presidio Trust ascribes.

“I am so pleased to accept this award on behalf of the Presidio Trust for the Inn at the Presidio,” says Terry Haney, General Manager of the Inn at the Presidio. “As a member of the Historic Hotels of America, we take great pride in implementing practices that preserve the Inn’s rich history and adopting the green practices that establish a more sustainable future. We are honored to have been recognized for our efforts in this work.”

Nestled in the Presidio’s historic forest at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Inn at the Presidio is surrounded by miles of hiking and biking trails and scenic overlooks. Originally a former bachelor officer’s quarters built by the army in 1903, the building underwent an environmentally sensitive restoration using green materials in 2012 that transformed the historic structure into the park’s first lodging. The Inn at the Presidio has been LEED Gold Certified by the U.S. Green Building Council since 2012, and takes great care to preserve both the natural and historical aspects that make the Inn so extraordinary.

The Presidio is one of the largest and most ambitious historic preservation projects underway in the United States. Of the 870 structures in the Presidio, 470 are on the National Registry of Historic Places — more than two-thirds of which have been fully or partially rehabilitated for public use. The Trust adheres to the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the treatment of historic properties, which provide guidance on maintaining, repairing, and replacing historic materials, as well as additions or alterations. The Trust has also adopted the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for all major building rehabilitation projects.

“We are delighted to honor the Inn at the Presidio in winning the Sustainability Champion Award,” said Larry Horwitz, Executive Director of Historic Hotels of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. “These award-winning hotels represents the pinnacle of nominees in a number of categories. We give them congratulations and wish them best success.”

Featuring 22 spacious rooms, including 17 suites with fireplaces, an inviting front porch with rocking chairs, a dining room, and an outdoor deck with a fire pit, the Inn at the Presidio uses green materials throughout the building including the insulation inside the walls, which is made from repurposed cotton denim. The highest quality architectural and construction techniques were used, and many of the building’s existing features have been preserved, including the hardwood floors, original doors and light fixtures, as well as the grand Tuscan columns that allow the Inn to maintain its historic character.

The Inn features modern, energy-efficient heating, plumbing, electrical systems and appliances, and was designed to maximize natural ventilation and lighting. In additional to sustainable building features, the Inn also follows green housekeeping practices and has a rigorous recycling and composting program that diverts the majority of its waste from landfills.

The Inn at the Presidio is located at 42 Moraga Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94129. For more information and reservations, call (415) 800-7356 or visit www.innatthepresidio.com. Follow the Inn on facebook.com/InnatThePresidio, on Instagram at @innatthepresidio and on Twitter at @InnatPresidio.
