On Friday, July 20, the Presidio Trust will permanently close Crissy Field Avenue to vehicles and begin converting the roadway to a multi-use trail for pedestrians and cyclists. This will create a safe and enjoyable trail connection between two of the park’s most visited destinations – Crissy Field and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Upon the closure, pedestrians will continue to be able to travel in both directions and cyclists may still travel uphill. In coming months, improvements will be made to the trail making it accessible to cyclists in both directions (uphill and downhill).
Automobiles will continue to have access from Crissy Field up to Lincoln Boulevard using McDowell Avenue (see map).
Transforming Crissy Field Avenue into a multi-use trail was envisioned in the
Presidio Trails and Bikeways Master Plan published by the Presidio Trust and National Park Service in 2003. As Presidio Parkway construction draws to a close, we now have the ability to make the change.
