Integrated Pest Management Specialist

The Presidio Trust is seeking an experienced Integrated Pest Management Specialist. The Presidio of San Francisco, the 1,491-acre former Army base at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge, is now a new kind of national park. The park includes 477 individually significant historic buildings, about 6 million square feet of residential and office space, and more than 180 historic objects. To date, 325 historic buildings have been fully or partially rehabilitated and are now occupied. Now, these beautiful, historic buildings are revived with new life and new uses for our public visitors, tenants, and employees. The Building Stewardship Department keeps these spaces both beautiful and functional for their modern uses.

Our ideal candidate will have five (5) years related pest control maintenance experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience. You will have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedures manuals. You will know how to establish and operate a monitoring program for pests, develop field test criteria to evaluate the efficacy of varied pest management techniques and pesticide application and more. You'll work as a team, conveying project progress and finish schedule so that work can be coordinated with others. Because you will sometimes work in occupied buildings, impeccable customer service skills are must-haves.


This is a full-time role with benefits and a minimum salary of $40.43/hr.   This position is included in a bargaining unit, specifically The Laborer's International Union of North America, Local 792, United Public Employees of California.  Applications received by September 30, 2022, will receive first consideration.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of an IPM program to prevent and control pests in park owned buildings, trees, planters, landscaped areas and rights-of-way, open space, drainage channels, wastewater treatment plant, and facilities using a composite of techniques to include physical, chemical, mechanical, cultural, and biological methods.
  • Assist in the development of IPM policies and objectives consistent with those of the organization to ensure safe and efficient operation of individual operating units. Provide technical guidance and oversight to the department and to the team.
  • Ensure compliance with all application policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. Manage database of information to ensure compliance.
  • Assist all departments with pest control management within their areas of responsibility and respond to questions regarding pest management.
  • Ensure all department IPM applicators have pesticide labels and Safety Data Sheets available in their departments for all pesticides used AND ensure that all staff involved in application of pesticides are trained on safe application practices in accordance with the Safety Data Sheets.
  • Research and recommend successful least-toxic methods to management, including less toxic chemical, mechanical, and cultural methods AND prepare and maintain a list of reduced-risk pesticides for approval and use on the Presidio.
  • Provide guidance to park staff and contractors engaged in pest management activities including analysis and diagnosis, application of treatments, data collection, and reporting with the goal to minimize pesticide use and assure adherence to the Presidio's IPM Program and Policy.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, objectives, short- and long-range planning to develop and implement projects and programs to assist in accomplishment of established goals.
  • Maintain all applicable recommendations, records, and other documentation related to pesticide storage and application to maintain compliance with applicable local, state, or federal requirements.
  • Write, collect, analyze, and report statistical data. Present reports to the County Department of Agriculture, Department of Pesticide Regulations, Structural Pest Control Board, and other agencies.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, service vendors, contractors, tenants, and the public using principles of good customer service.
  • Survey and inspect trees, shrubs, grass, rights-of-way, vegetation, aquatics, and structures for evidence of disease or presence of harmful pests by using visual aids, field observations, monitoring, and historical records.
  • Monitor pest ecosystems to evaluate the presence of pest species, natural pest predators, and conditions that may contribute to pest problems.
  • Provide expertise, assistance, and training to staff, contract service providers, and the public about pest biology, the IPM approach, new pest management strategies, and toxicology of pesticides.
  • Provide high quality customer service and accurate information to park employees, tenants, representatives of outside agencies, and members of the public, in a courteous, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.

​Required Qualificatio​ns

  • Five (5) years of related pest control maintenance experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid State of California Class 'C' Driver's License.
  • Possession of a State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation Pest Control Applicators Certificate (Category B); AND
  • Possession of a California Structural Pest Control Board Structural Pest Control Applicator License (Branch 2).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Laws and regulations governing pest control operations; functions, qualities and characteristics of pesticides; climate, insects, plant diseases, and other conditions affecting growth of vegetation and/or plants in the local area.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of IPM procedures, methods and practices for controlling pests in the landscape and in buildings and structures; equipment and tools used for pest control.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of work safety and practices of good customer service.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships share information, objectives, techniques and work methods with employees, management, tenants, nonresidential and residential property management companies.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment and tools used in pest control operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to act as the liaison for communications between the Presidio Trust IPM Department, in- house staff, Presidio Trust management, tenants, and the Nonresidential and Residential property management companies.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with other agencies outside of the Presidio.


​Background & Driver's License Investigation and Review

The Presidio Trust has identified this position as subject to an employment background investigation which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver's license. An individual's granting of a background investigation and resulting report is voluntary. However, employment in this sensitive position is contingent upon the successful completion of an employment background investigation. The Presidio Trust may refuse to hire an individual, may rescind an offer of employment to an individual, or may review and terminate the employment of a current employee not successfully completing the background investigation.
