Sections of Park Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail Closed to Dog Walking

To reduce the potential for coyote/dog conflict, we’ve proactively closed large sections of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail to dog walking. This annual closure is temporary; we’ll reopen these trails to dog walking in fall after pupping season ends. All 24 miles of hiking trails in the Presidio are open to people.

Tides Converge turned a cluster of former Army hospital buildings into a green haven for non-profits, with a public restaurant and art galleries.

Located in the historic former Letterman General Hospital, Tides Converge is a 12-building collaborative workspace that’s home to Tides and 70 social beneficial organizations.

Even the walls provide a public service. Rotating exhibits from the center’s two art galleries can be found in the light-filled halls, reflecting a focus on the environment and social justice. The campus is also home to Café Rx, a restaurant that’s open to the public on weekdays.

Paid parking is available in a lot behind the main campus building on Edie Road between Girard Road and General Kennedy Avenue.

Why We Love Tides Converge

This is where history, art, and social justice come together. On a weekday, stop in for breakfast or lunch at Café Rx, mingling with staff from the non-profits. Then walk through the hallways to see photos of the hospital in the Army days, as well as contemporary art.

Accessibility at Tides Converge

Parking for those with mobility limitations is in a small lot in front of the campus just off Lincoln Boulevard and in a lot behind the main building on Edie Road between Girard Road and General Kennedy Avenue. Both art galleries are on the first floor.

Insider Tip

On a sunny day, enjoy breakfast or lunch from Café Rx al fresco in the enclosed courtyard next to the restaurant.

Presidio History Meets a Modern Mission

Tides is dedicated to building shared prosperity and social justice. Their San Francisco office opened in the Presidio in 1996.

Located in the Former Letterman General Hospital

Tides Converge is located in part of the former Letterman General Hospital, established in 1898 to treat Army soldiers returning from action in the Philippines. It was named for Major Jonathan Letterman, a military surgeon who revolutionized battlefield medicine during the Civil War. For more than a century, the hospital served as a primary and specialized treatment center for soldiers from around the West, as well as battlefield casualties during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The hospital closed its doors in 1994.
