The Presidio's Sports Basement is more than just a retailer – it's a community center for outdoor enthusiasts, athletes, families, and visitors alike. Located at Crissy Field within an 80,000 square foot former Army commissary, Sports Basement is in the heart of an area known for fitness, recreation, and appreciation of the natural world. Since it arrived in the park in 2003, it has become the place to get your gear to enjoy hiking, cycling, running, swimming, and birdwatching. The more adventurous can even find camping gear, skis and snowboards, and triathlon wetsuits.
But it's not just about things to buy – it's about things to do, together. Sports Basement hosts weekly events like group rides, potlucks, talks, yoga classes, and bicycle maintenance clinics. It also donates to and partners with local charities, and offers programs and resources for community members who are fundraising for a cause.
Sports Basement is a great place to recharge and use the restroom, refill your water bottle, or pump bike tires before heading out on your Presidio adventure. And you can bring your dead batteries, old tennis balls, retired bike parts, worn out running shoes, and empty propane canisters to recycle. The store even has a kids' play area, making it easy for parents to browse.
