Flanked by potted palms, the arched doorways of the Main Post's Building 39 are a handsome landmark on the Main Post. Once an Army HQ, today Building 39 houses a collection of film and media firms and an elegant event space under the umbrella of the San Francisco Film Centre.
It is also home to the Presidio Palms Café, a favorite spot for park workers and visitors alike to enjoy a seasonal Californian menu. It's brought to you by those behind another favorite eatery, the
Presidio Social Club. If the soundtrack of its sister restaurant is the rhythmic rattle of cocktail shakers, at the Palms Café it's the hum of the espresso machine, which churns out cups of liquid joy all day long. Step up to the marble counter and order pastries, fresh salads and sandwiches stuffed with seasonal ingredients, and daily specials. A small fridge offers grab-and-go snacks and beverages, including a few choice brews from Presidio-based Fort Point Beer Company.
The cafe is open weekdays only; check their website for hours. Building 39 is accessible from the parking lot on Keyes Avenue (enter the right-hand door) or from Mesa Street. You'll find the cafe and restrooms just off the entrance lobby.
