(San Francisco - March 17,
2015) The Presidio Institute today announced
the selection of twenty-four professionals from businesses,
non-profits, academia, philanthropy and government to
participate in theCross Sector Leadership (CSL) Fellows program,
a year-long, multi-city program created in partnership with
BlackRock, McKinsey, the United States Office of Personnel
Management, and the White House Office of Social Innovation and
Civic Participation. The goal of the program is to develop
empowered, inspired leaders to meet the complex challenges
facing our society in the 21st century. The CSL Fellows program
will launch on March 29 at the Presidio in San Francisco, and
also travel to Washington, D.C., and New York City for immersive
learning visits.
"We hope that the fellows will be inspired by the
Presidio's rich history of service and cross sector
collaboration," said Craig Middleton, Presidio Trust
Executive Director. "They can't help but be energized
by the stunning beauty of the Institute's location at the
base of the Golden Gate."
This year's Fellows (listed below) were selected through a
competitive application process based on their record of
personal achievement, their ability to contribute to the
program, as well as their desire to apply that learning to a
cross sector effort in their work or community. The term
"cross sector" refers to working across
government, non-profit and for-profit sectors to develop
solutions to difficult problems.
The program will provide Fellows an opportunity to focus
on cross sector leadership development and be exposed to
examples of cross sector collaboration and innovations in
leadership. They will learn about how some of the nation's
most innovative organizations participate in cross sector
collaborations, and will benefit from a rigorous program to
enhance their skill sets, expand their networks, and explore
different approaches to solving complex challenges.
"We envision a world where there are individuals
working in all sectors and geographies who are equipped to
collaborate to solve seemingly intractable social, economic,
and environmental problems," said David B. Smith,
Presidio Institute Managing Director, "The Presidio
Institute aims to support the development of and provide a
physical home for these champions for change."
The Fellows will apply what they learn in the program to
cross sector efforts focused on a wide range of issues from
improving educational outcomes, to asset building for
low-income people, to energy efficiency, to innovative
financing strategies for redevelopment.
The Presidio Institute held its inaugural CSL Fellows
program in 2014. During the 2014 program, Fellows had
the opportunity to learn from organizations including Gap,
Inc., Year Up, City and County of San Francisco, Omidyar
Network, City of New York, United Way, Annie E. Casey
Foundation, Unilever, News Corp, Living Cities, and
Brookings Institution.
