What to Expect at this Event

Presidio Theatre presents Redemption Time, a 70-minute multimedia concert film tracing the parallel journeys of poet Jimmy Santiago Baca and jazz violinist Christian Howes. Through spoken word poetry, jazz, and visual storytelling, the film explores how both artists moved from early trauma and incarceration toward creative expression and personal transformation.

The evening extends beyond the screening with a live solo performance by Howes, a poetry reading by former Marin County Poet Laureate Francesca Bell, and a panel discussion exploring the role of art and community in resilience and reentry. Panelists include Manuelito Biag of Futures Without Violence, Jenny Espinoza of Back to the Start, Ali Moss of The Beat Within, and Rabbi Paul Shleffar of San Quentin Prison.

Bringing together film, music, poetry, and conversation, this special Presidio Theatre program examines creativity as a means of rebuilding lives and creating connection after incarceration.
