Presidio Coronavirus Updates

(updated Thursday, April 9, 2020)

The well-being of park visitors, residents, tenants, volunteers, and employees is our top priority.

The shelter in place order has been extended to May 3 and the Presidio Trust has issued its revised emergency declaration.

The Presidio remains open to the public, though most park-operated public facilities are temporarily closed. Please see below for information on how to safely and responsibly visit the Presidio.

If you have questions, please contact us at  presidio@presidiotrust.gov.

For information about tenant organizations located in the Presidio, please visit their individual websites.

Keep Yourself + Others Safe

Maintain a 6 feet physical distance between you and others at all times

The outdoors are vital to our health and good for the spirit at times like this. The Presidio’s open spaces and trails are available to the public for walking, running, or biking for exercise. But to limit the spread of coronavirus, we must all do our part to keep ourselves and others safe (#keepparkssafe).

  • If you’re feeling sick or are in a vulnerable group, stay home.
  • Don’t drive – if you have to get in your car, it’s too far. Many coastal parking lots are closed (see below).
  • Enjoy the park solo. Wave at fellow park lovers from a safe distance. Stay at least six feet from others and never travel in groups.
  • Activities with shared equipment, such as frisbee or soccer, are prohibited with anyone outside your household.
  • Help with trash by packing out things you’d normally discard.

Note that some sections of the Bay Area Ridge Trail and Park Trail are temporarily closed to dog walking because we’re in coyote pupping season. Presidio Golf Course is also closed to dog walking. See the website for a map.

PresidiGo Shuttle + JUMP Bike

The PresidiGo Shuttle's current schedule runs through Sunday, April 5. View the schedule through April 5 >>

Beginning on Monday, April 6 and continuing through the shelter in place period, the shuttle will further reduce its schedule, including reducing commute period service and temporarily suspending the Crissy Field Route. View the schedule that begins Monday, April 6 >>

PresidiGo should be used for essential travel like shopping for necessary supplies, accessing health care, and providing aid to family and friends who need assistance. Please practice physical distancing and keep six feet apart when possible. The buses are being cleaned twice daily, and sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer are on the buses.

Please sign up to receive PresidiGo text messages alerts to stay connected.

JUMP Bike has also temporarily removed the Presidio from its service area.

Public Events + Volunteer Programs

To keep our staff, visitors, and volunteers safe, the Presidio Trust has cancelled all events and volunteer programs through the shelter in place period.

We’re also postponing the launch of the 9th season of Presidio Picnic.

Note: please check the calendars of other organizations based in the Presidio to learn about their activities.

Ensuring Park Operations

The Presidio Trust is operating to provide for the health, safety and welfare of residents, tenants, and the public, and to ensure essential functions continue.

Accordingly, the park's water, gas, sewer systems, roads, and grounds are safe and functioning, and we're resolving maintenance issues for residents and tenants. United States Park Police, Fire Department, and emergency dispatch are operating.

We're also continuing five public works construction projects: Quartermaster Reach marsh expansion, Presidio Tunnel Tops, Doyle Drive-related projects, Swords to Plowshares Veterans Academy improvements, and Presidio water treatment plant projects. Trust staff and contractors adhere to required safety protocols, including physical distancing, and use protective equipment as needed to protect themselves and others.

Field Trips + Educational Programs

We’re suspending our field trips and educational programs indefinitely. We remain in close communication with the San Francisco Unified School District and other Bay Area schools.

  • Increasing the frequency of cleaning in areas with high contact points, such as door handles, toilets, elevators, wash basins, refuse bins, poles, and handrails
  • Ensuring that refuse bins are covered and cleared daily
  • Reinforcing training for our staff on good personal and food hygiene practices
