‘Tis the season for giving, and there are many ways you can support the people and places you care about through organizations located right here in the Presidio. Here are three ideas for giving back.

1. Give to Support the Kids
No child should be left without a toy during the holiday season. To ensure every kid has a smile on his or her face this December, the Presidio Community YMCA and Sports Basement are partnering with the SF Firefighters Toy Program to accept new toy donations for families in need. Drop off your unwrapped toys to either location through December 20. Toys for infants through kids age 12 are greatly appreciated.
2. Give to Support North Bay Fire Survivors
This fall, many Presidio organizations came together to raise money and collect essential items for survivors of the North Bay Fire. The relief effort is still underway! Every Saturday and/or Sunday (weather permitting) in December, It’s Yoga Kids will have a pop-up toy and book sale near Julius Kahn Playground in the Presidio. Sales benefit It’s Yoga Kids’ non-profit beneficiaries and the North Bay Fire recovery process. If you’re seeking stocking stuffers, they’ll have the following new or nearly new items available:
- Books (board books, parenting books, chapter books)
- Sports equipment
- Backpacks and school supplies
- Puzzles and games
- Crafts and activities
- Dramatic play
- Plush toys
- Kids luggage

3. Give (or Buy a Gift) to Support Our Parks
One way to support the Presidio—as well as other sites within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area – is by becoming a member of the non-profit Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. It’s the perfect time to join because now through December 31, 2017, your gift will be matched by the Conservancy’s Board of Trustees dollar-for-dollar, meaning your gift will go twice as far to support trail improvements, youth education programs, habitat restoration, and so much more.
You can also support the parks by doing your holiday shopping at the Presidio Visitor Center, the Warming Hut, or the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. There are many unique finds to be had, and proceeds benefit the parks. And if you’re a member of the Conservancy, you’ll get 15 percent off your haul. It’s a win-win!
