To mark the new year, get ideas for activating your mind and body and beginning a new chapter.

It’s a new year and the perfect time for a fresh start. If you’re looking to kick your resolutions into high gear while spending time in the park, here are five ideas for activating your body, rejuvenating your mind, and beginning a new chapter.

Get in Shape

The Presidio has 24 miles of trails for hiking, 15 miles of bikeways, a world-renown beach, great for surfing and an outdoor work out, and indoor fitness facilities – like the Presidio YMCA, Movement rock climbing gym, and House of Air – to get you moving. It’s almost easier to work out in the Presidio than it is to make excuses for why you’re not working out.

Give Back

From planting native seedlings, to maintaining trails, to helping the archaeology team on an active dig, to sharing your knowledge with park visitors as a docent, there are so many ways to volunteer in the Presidio.

Get Unplugged

A walk through the Presidio will reset your mind and transport you away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. While you may be tempted to take a selfie in the woods, we recommend keeping your phone in your backpack and enjoying the park completely unplugged. Scenic overlooks throughout the Presidio provide places to let your body relax and your mind wander while you take in the extraordinary views and the natural wonders around you.

Make a Commitment

Tis the season for putting a ring on it. A national park is an unforgettable place to pop the question or tie the knot. Choose your backdrop for that special proposal, or save the date to say “I do” within a log cabin, a Spanish mission revival chapel, a historic Officers’ Club, or other elegant venues in the Presidio.
