Presidio's Greatest Lists: Five Ways to Get Moving in the Presidio

We get it – it’s a new year and maybe you’re looking to fulfill a few of those New Year’s resolutions. If getting moving is on your list, we’ve got five great ways to enjoy the Presidio. From beautiful trail adventures to intense rock-climbing experiences, there’s something for everyone!

1. Take a Bike Ride

Rent a bike from Presidio Sports Basement, hop on an E-bike, or bring your own wheels and take an epic ride on the park’s 25 miles of bikeways. With plenty of picturesque places to stop – like Fort Point, Inspiration Point, the Golden Gate Bridge – biking around the Presidio is an exciting way get your body moving while enjoy some amazing scenery!

2. Get Moving with the Kids

Parents know that when the kids are on the move, you’re most likely on the move, too! So join your tykes for swimming at Presidio Community YMCA get hopping at House of Air trampoline park, practice hitting at Batter’s Box, or fly a kite on the Main Parade Ground!

3. Get Your Workout On

There’re plenty of places in the Presidio to get your workout on. The Presidio Community YMCA offers a weight room, a basketball court, exercise machines, a cycling studio, and more. If you’re looking for a “Namaste” vibe, practice your poses at Baptiste Yoga. For the best of both worlds, visit A Body of Work for “functional fitness training.” Or head to the Main Parade Ground and use the lovely green lawn as your own personal yoga studio with a view!

4. Try Something New

Indoor rock climbing at Planet Granite

If you’re looking for something completely different, Planet Granite might be for you. Open to all ages and experience levels, the gym offers 45-foot high climbing walls and 25,000 square feet of state-of-the-art climbing terrain – all with beautiful views of the Crissy Field waterfront. Beginners can learn the ropes with introductory lessons that come with rental gear. You can also feel good knowing that the company donates $1 per member every month to a cause related to climbing, the community, or the environment.

5. Take a Trail Loop that’s Welcoming to All

Within the Presidio’s 24-mile trail network there’s a three-mile loop that everyone can enjoy no matter their mode of travel – be it by foot, bike, wheelchair, or stroller. The loop showcases the best of the Presidio and includes portions of six park trails: Bay Area Ridge Trail, Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail, California Coastal Trail, Presidio Promenade, and Park Trail. Along the way you'll enjoy gentle slopes, firm surfaces, forest groves, historic buildings, and incredible views of San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
