Not only is the Presidio where San Francisco started, it’s also a great place to find some of the City’s best home-grown food and drink. Here are a few local favorites that can be found within the park.
The Classic - Chowder in a Bread Bowl
While classic creamy clam chowder is synonymous with Boston, San Francisco made the concept its own by serving it up in a sourdough bread bowl. The sourdough in San Francisco really can't be replicated – and our bread bowl is famous with both locals and visitors alike! If you'd like a view of the Golden Gate Bridge served with your chowder, we humbly suggest the best place to find both is at the Presidio's
Round House Café, located in the visitor plaza near the bridge's Welcome Center. Both the soup and the view are delicious! This is the perfect spot to warm up after a walk across the bridge or during your daily hike through the park.
The Millennial - Fancy Toast
Though in no way did the people of San Francisco invent toast, they definitely perfected it. San Franciscans started the toast revolution at Trouble Coffee in the Outer Sunset and took it to the next level at the Mill on Divisadero. But the Presidio also has some great renditions. At
TRANSIT, located within the Presidio Transit Center, you’ll find great breakfast toast with avocado – and you can even add an egg. Or you could try the tasty afternoon snack shown here – freshly made hummus with toast. It’s a big hit with the kids. Take it outside to the patio and enjoy an epic view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, and the City skyline.
A New Tradition - Fort Point Beer
Did you know
Fort Point Beer, another San Francisco native, is brewed right here in the Presidio (hence the name!)? Founded in 2014, Fort Point brews can be found throughout the park – at
Arguello Restaurant, and
The Commissary, for instance. You can also enjoy this brew every Thursday at
Presidio Twilight or Sundays at
Presidio Picnic. Soon you’ll also be able to grab a pint at the summer BBQ Biergarten at
Presidio Social Club. The Club is partnering with Fort Point Beer to offer a selection of beers ($4) and a rotation of barbecue favorites – all served al fresca on their beautiful patio. It will be offered every Wednesday, July 12 through August 23, 2017, from 3 to 7 pm.
