Presidio Eats: Fall Feasting

Tuesday, Nov 01, 2016 Category Food and Drink

It's officially the time of year to bring out the gourds – and to start gorging yourself! If you're looking for a sweet spot in a lovely setting for a slice of pumpkin pie – or a pumpkin beverage, or even an entire pumpkin prix fixe menu – we've got you covered.

Warm Salad – This season, TRANSIT is bringing together some of the best fall flavors in a warm salad,  featuring wilted baby kale with crispy bacon, tart apple, roasted butternut squash, raisins, pumpkin seeds, and finished with ricotta salata (AKA fancy Italian cheese) and a hot balsamic vinaigrette. This'll take care of your autumnal hankerings ($13).

Hot spiced apple cider – Pair that view of the Golden Gate Bridge with a tasty hot beverage. The perfect spot for both is TRANSIT, where you'll find seasonal hot cider and a cozy, wind-protected patio. $3.50 for the cider, but the view is free.

Specials - Every day, Presidio Palms Café incorporates local and seasonal favorites into their menu, from their flavorful – and might we say, perfectly seasoned – soups, to their salads and sandwich specials. Check out their recent specials: Autumn Pork Loin Sandwich ($9.75), Warm Vegetable Sandwich ($9.50), or Quinoa and Acorn Squash Salad ($9.50).

Spiced Pumpkin Latte – Now through December 2016, they've got a spiced pumpkin latte on the menu ($5). Come and get it!

New Open Kitchen Guest Chef Series – In November, The Commissary launches its new Open Kitchen Guest Chef Series. The format features four local and/or visiting chefs working with The Commissary's new executive chef, Rogelio Garcia. Together they'll design a four-course prix fix menu focusing on a specific seasonal ingredient each month.

The series kicks-off on Monday, November 7, 2016 with guest chefs Curtis De Fede, chef owner of Miminashi; Andrew Wiseheart, chef-owner of Conigo and Chicon in Austin, TX; and Rodney Wages, chef-owner of R.T.B. Fillmore. Each chef will create a course infused with pumpkin – and not the typical gourds that spring to mind. Rather, they'll take inspiration from dense, blue-green marina di chioggias, tender buttercups, and sweet kabochas. Dinner is $85 per person and $120 with wine paring. Stay tuned for December, when the Chef Series focuses on caviar!

Pie - If you want your holiday desserts to really impress your guests, you might consider enlisting an expert. Presidio Social Club's Pastry Chef Rene Cruz is baking up a selection of pies ($40), a new spiced banana loaf with cream cheese swirl and pecan oatmeal crumble ($18), and you can pick up fresh whipped cream ($5), if you choose. All available to go!

Thanksgiving Menu - If you're also thinking, "Why do I even need to cook at all?" the Presidio Social Club is open for Thanksgiving on November 24, 2016. They have a $65 per person three-course menu that includes a fall greens salad or squash soup, classic roast turkey dinner, and their bourbon chocolate pecan or classic pumpkin pie.
