Sections of Park Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail Closed to Dog Walking

To reduce the potential for coyote/dog conflict, we’ve proactively closed large sections of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail to dog walking. This annual closure is temporary; we’ll reopen these trails to dog walking in fall after pupping season ends. All 24 miles of hiking trails in the Presidio are open to people.

Presidio Discovery - Time-Lapse Video: Taking Down the Old Burger King

We demolished a former Burger King to make way for Presidio Tunnel Tops.

In November 2018, we demolished an old building in the heart of the Presidio overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. Built in 1968, the building was once an Army-era cafeteria and later a Burger King with the best views in the world.

We did it to make way for the Presidio Tunnel Tops, 14 acres of new national parkland that will be built on top of the nearby Presidio Parkway tunnels, connecting two amazing Presidio places: Crissy Field and the historic Main Post.

When we took down the former Burger King, incredible Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay, and city skyline views were revealed.

The SF Examiner, the San Francisco Chronicle, SF Weekly, NBC Bay Area – and more! – were on hand to watch the demo, and they shared feature stories that included memories of the building and visions of the future Tunnel Tops.
