Presidio Discovery: Four Free Events in the Presidio this Summer

The Presidio hosts some of the most exciting events in San Francisco, including picnics, dance performances, festivals, and cultural events. There is always something happening at the Presidio of San Francisco, and events are always free for the public to attend. Bring your friends and family to enjoy an event in the park while taking in the park’s nature and breathtaking views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge.​

1. PRESIDIO PICNIC

Presidio Picnic

Grab a blanket and invite your friends and family to meet on the Presidio’s Main Parade Ground for San Francisco’s biggest Sunday picnic! Presidio Picnic features food and drink from around the world, lawn games, music, yoga classes, nature-based arts and crafts for kids, and amazing views of the San Francisco Bay. Bring a picnic or purchase food from our food trucks. Pets on leash are welcome. Every Sunday through October 20, 11 am to 4 pm on the Presidio’s Main Parade Ground lawn.

2. PRESIDIO PICNIC CULTURAL DANCES

Presidio Picnic also features free monthly cultural dance performances on the third Sunday of every month, 12pm – 2pm​, through October. Upcoming dance groups include:

  • Sunday, July 21 – Amor Do Samba Group
  • Sunday, August 18 – Daktari Dance Medicine Collective
  • Sunday, September 15 – New Style Motherlode Hip Hop Group
  • Sunday, October 20 – Manuia Polynesian Revue

3. PRESIDIO KITE FESTIVAL

Presidio Kite Festival

On Saturday, August 10, 11 am to 5 pm, join us on the Main Parade Ground lawn for the Presidio Kite Festival. This colorful, family-friendly festival features a free “build your own kite” booth, lessons on how to build a kite from experts, a kite art exhibition, giant kites, mega team flying, and Taiko drummers. Bring a picnic or purchase food from our food trucks.

4. 1ST ANNUAL​ ​BAY AREA KOREAN CHUSEOK (HARVEST) FESTIVAL

Songpyeon at Chuseok

On Saturday, September 14, from 11 am to 5 pm at the Civil War Parade Ground enjoy Korean food, singers and dancers (traditional and pop), Taekwondo and Wrestling demonstrations, traditional crafts, and unique Korean board games. Partners include the Korean Cultural Institute, the Korean American Foundation, and the Korean Consulate.
