San Francisco, CA (May 6, 2024) – The Presidio Trust has signed a lease with the Adda Clevenger School to occupy historic Building 2 (14,150 SF) on the park’s Main Post. The new space will complement the school’s existing site nearby at 65 Funston Avenue (3,909 SF), enabling the K-8 school to ultimately serve 150 students in a two-building campus.

Adda Clevenger is now enrolling for classes at 65 Funston Avenue starting August 19, 2024, and will expand into Building 2 in 2026, following the historic building’s rehabilitation.

“We’re delighted that the Presidio has become a preferred place for education, with nine schools recognizing the value of students having access to the beauty and nature this national park site offers,” says Jeff Eichenfield, director of commercial asset management at the Presidio Trust. “It’s a fantastic use for the park’s historic buildings and enriches the Presidio’s neighborhood feel.”

The two buildings are well-suited for educational use. Originally built by the Army in 1893, 65 Funston Avenue has dedicated outdoor play space and serves students in the school’s lower grades. Building 2, was constructed in 1863-64 and was once the post hospital. Rehabilitation of Building 2 began in April, using the sustainable principles of adaptive reuse to keep materials out of the waste stream and preserve historic features.

“We are excited to add a second facility in the Presidio, where students of both campuses will have access to green space for outdoor learning,” says Ben Harrison, director of operations at Adda Clevenger. “The Presidio is exceptionally child-friendly and complements our philosophy of immersive, experiential education.” The Adda Clevenger School aims to duplicate their community-based school model for the additional 150 students that will be based in the park, doubling the current student population.

Building 2 is one of three historic buildings being brought back to life through the Presidio Forward park improvement campaign, which is making a landmark investment to improve the Presidio’s infrastructure, open spaces, and historic buildings over the next several years. Two additional Main Post buildings are also being prepared for new uses, supporting the park’s unique funding model. Building 102, one of the iconic Montgomery Street Barracks, will serve as office space and Building 40 will serve as small suite office space. Both buildings will be ready for occupancy in 2026. These and other leasing opportunities are available on the Presidio’s website at www.presidio.gov/lease.

Adda Clevenger will hold an open house at 65 Funston Avenue on Friday, May 10 from 10 am to 1 pm. RSVP http://inquiry.addaclevenger.org or admissions@addaclevenger.org.

About the Presidio and the Presidio Trust

The Presidio is one of America’s most visited national park sites, located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Spanning 1,500 acres next to San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio is among the most biologically diverse parks in America. Historically a home to native peoples and a military post under three flags, its facilities have been reinvented as museums, restaurants, hotels, homes, and offices. The Presidio Trust is the federal agency that stewards the Presidio, in partnership with the National Park Service and with support from the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy. The Trust sustains the Presidio by leasing homes and workplaces and offering visitor amenities. Learn more at presidio.gov.
