The Presidio Trust, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy offer volunteer internships for motivated people looking for an opportunity to connect to the park while gaining specialized training in various aspects of park management. Volunteer interns serve full-time on a short-term or long-term basis and receive free housing and a stipend paid every two weeks.

The Presidio Trust is currently has a position open for an Archaeology Volunteer Intern to support the field and laboratory initiatives of the Presidio Heritage Program for 10-12 months beginning as early as mid-June. Significant archaeological areas and collections managed by the Presidio Trust include those from the Ohlone, Spanish Colonial, Mexican, and American periods of occupation. Activities take place in the public sphere and the intern will be expected to interact with visitors and be a spokesperson for the program, explaining the archaeological process and research on a daily basis. The internship is a career development opportunity designed to give recent graduates a venue for improving skills in field archaeology, historic research, laboratory analysis, collections management, and public interpretation.

Environmental Education Intern
The Presidio Trust currently has a position open for an intern to support Presidio environmental education for 10-12 months beginning as early as early April. The internship is an opportunity to creatively contribute to the growing menu of experience and public engagement with the natural heritage of the Presidio. A primary focus will be developing and implementing place-based environmental education materials and programming that will connect urban people of all ages with the nature that abounds in the park.
Forest Management Intern
The Presidio Trust currently has a position open for an intern to support management and stewardship of the Presidio' s historic forest for 10-12 months beginning in May. The internship will involve analyzing avian habitat value in the forest, assessing debris build-up and moisture content of fuels under the mature tree canopy, creating a database of fire potential in forest stands, verifying tree locations, monitoring forest health, and studying wind velocities.
Heritage Education Intern
The Presidio Trust currently
has a position open for a Heritage Education Intern to support the educational
initiatives of the Presidio Heritage Program for 10-12 months beginning in
mid-June. The intern will be expected to lead educational programming in
the form of field trips, after school programs, camps, and family events for youth
ranging from pre-K through high school as well as for some adult
audiences. The intern will also assist the education staff with the
development and implementation of new education programs and outreach
initiatives. The internship is a career development opportunity designed
to give recent graduates a venue for improving skills in informal education,
curriculum development, program evaluation, community engagement, and public
interpretation of the Presidio’s natural and historic sites.
