Special November Volunteer Days
Volunteers clear away French broom from the Presidio.
Thank you to all of our volunteers who have helped out around the Presidio this fall!
We’re kicking off another month of special volunteer events, including community art and stewardship activities on Veterans Day and helping the Presidio Trust's Waste Reduction Team organize their historic items collection at the Salvage Warehouse.
Volunteer Day at the Salvage Warehouse
November 8, 10 am to 12:30 pm
Over the years, the Presidio Trust's Waste Reduction Team has combed through hundreds of park buildings collecting and cataloging thousands of discarded items. Their goal has been to find new uses for the items, keeping as much as possible out of landfills. The Waste Reduction Team is now seeking volunteers to help tidy up the Salvage Warehouse where these items are stored. Help organize their historic items collection while learning about their unique waste diversion program that incorporates recycling and waste management with salvage, disposal and preservation of historic buildings.
Veterans Day 2012: Celebration through Service + Art
November 11, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm
Celebrate the contributions of Bay Area Veterans and the Presidio's military history with a day of celebration, art and service. Create art alongside Veteran student artists from the San Francisco Academy of Art or join the Presidio Trust in a variety of park stewardship projects, including gardening, habitat restoration and litter pickup. Activities will take place in the Presidio's Fort Scott District. Hosted by the Presidio Trust and NCIRE - the Veterans Health Research Institute.
Sweep Away Broom Day
November 16, 10 am to noon
Join the Presidio Trust in its targeted effort to remove French broom from the Presidio. Considered an invasive species, French broom grows in thick patches in various locations throughout the park. We will spend the morning removing broom along the Park Trail in the Presidio Golf Course.
