January Volunteer Highlights

Presidio MLK Day of Service
Join us this month on Monday, January 19 for our annual Presidio MLK Day of Service and help make the Presidio a place for all to enjoy. This family-friendly event will feature habitat restoration, campground care, and garden stewardship projects in and around the Presidio's Rob Hill Campground. All ages welcome. Sign-up here.

Landscape with Salvaged Materials
Thursday, January 8: Salvage Yard
Help landscape a new site near the Salvage Warehouse, using Salvaged materials! We are embarking on a new project and need some extra hands. We will be landscaping using Salvaged cobbles, creating art, and pulling weeds. Please come join the fun! Registration is easy but required - just send a quick email to volunteer@presidio.gov and let us know how many are in your party (if more than 5, we may ask to schedule a separate workday with your team).

Grow the Presidio Forest
Friday, January 9th: West Pacific Reforestation Site

The new year brings new challenges and new opportunities to our reforestation work in the Presidio. Weeding and irrigation ring expansion is needed along the West Pacific plantation, and possibly some erosion control work. We'll also take a moment to recognize our regular volunteers at the January 9th program.

Build a New Stone Pathway
Tuesday, January 13th: MacArthur Neighborhood
The Trails Stewards will tackle a fresh and interesting project to start the new year: construction of a stone pathway that leads from a residential neighborhood to MacArthur Avenue. With leadership from our Presidio Trust Masons, volunteers will clear and prepare the area, then place new material and create a lasting permanent improvement to our park. This will be a unique pathway-building experience! Please join us, as we'll also be recognizing volunteers at this program with a special new year's gift!

Beautify Historic Landscapes at the Lombard Gate
Friday, January 16th: Lombard Gate
Help beautify one of the most visible sections of the Presidio - the Lombard Gate entrance, nearby section of the Lyon Street Wall, and the lawn and landscaped areas lying adjacent to these beautiful, Army-era stone features. We'll follow the lead of senior gardener Carlos Palacios as he directs us on this important work that keeps these historic artifacts protected and appreciated.
