Care for the Campground
Tuesday, September 2nd: Rob Hill Campground
In 1852, U.S. Army engineers drew plans for a fort named "Redoubt" where the Rob Hill Campground now sits. But workers eventually only built a lookout station they called "Telegraph Hill" (not to be confused with that other SF hill home to Coit tower!). The survey marker that followed read: "Redoubt, Telegraph Hill." And from that the name "Rob Hill" was born, where today the renovated campsite is the only public campground in the City, and lies right beneath the westernmost point of the Pacific flyway. Come enhance the native habitat being cultivated around the campground with us in early September, one of the most beautiful times of the year to enjoy this amazing location.

Preserve the Beautiful Boardwalk Section of the Mountain Lake Trail

Tuesday, September 9th: Mountain Lake Trail
Cleanup one of the most gorgeous and revered sections of Presidio trail on September 9th as we tackle boardwalk restoration with our loyal volunteer crew. The Mountain Lake Trail meanders through restored sand dunes of coastal bluff habitat growing over the site where over 600 merchant mariners were once buried well over a century ago. The highly used trail pays homage to those buried with a plaque that we'll observe before beginning cleanup. At that point we'll begin removing the constant buildup of sand, plants and debris that have made this spot a worthy subject or our efforts. Expect light pruning, sweeping and deck flossing as we bring this trail back into peak condition.
