The recently updated East Beach picnic area is the perfect site to enjoy an amazing view of the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and Golden Gate Bridge, whether you are a resident of San Francisco or visiting for the first time. Located near the Marina Gate, there are # picnic tables, # barbeque pits and restrooms nearby for convenience. For those who don’t feel like bringing a picnic, stop by the Beach Hut Café in Crissy Field Center to warm up with a hot beverage and a sandwich. While the afternoon winds can make this spot blustery, visitors are afforded a great view of the multitude of kite surfers that take advantage of the breeze.
After your picnic, choose a direction and explore the sites nearby. Just to the east is Crissy Marsh, where birders might spot a Great Egret, migrating ducks, and other shorebirds. The amount of wildlife around Crissy Marsh is astounding considering that this salt marsh was restored in the last 20 years to its original condition after being filled in and paved as part of the Panama Pacific International Exposition in 1915. Continue your journey by walking along the Golden Gate Promenade and exploring Crissy Field.
