Presidio of San Francisco (June 23, 2005) - Commemorate the Presidio’s past on Friday, June 24, starting at 1 p.m. with music, dance, and lore of the Ohlone, Spanish, and Mexican cultures that have been woven through centuries at the Presidio. All programs are free.
This year’s event marks the 229th anniversary of the establishment of the Presidio, one of the oldest landmarks in San Francisco.
Presidio Pasados begins on Friday, June 24, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with Passport Through Time, an afternoon of fun for children. Youngsters will travel through time to meet historical figures and discover the Presidio’s past. They will learn about native history and culture from Ohlone descendents, meet park rangers and archaeologists, enjoy storytelling, kid’s activities, and more. The afternoon concludes with interactive music and dance by the Los Cenzontles Mexican Arts Center.
A Presidio favorite - ¡Fandango V! – Songs & Dances from Mexican California — begins at 7 p.m. at the Presidio Officers’ Club (50 Moraga Avenue on the Presidio’s Main Post). This lively concert will feature the renowned Coro Hispano de San Francisco andLos Cenzontles with dancers from Los Lupeños de San José. The White Star Café located within the Presidio Officers’ Club will offer a special food and drink menu inspired by the evening’s music and will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Presidio Pasados is a commemoration of the early native, Spanish and Mexican cultures that helped shape San Francisco. It is also a celebration of this unique national park’s cultural heritage.
