High Voltage Electrician

Performs journey-level high voltage electrician work in construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage systems and related systems for commercial buildings and residences. Duties include wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as pad mounted transformers, generators, vacuum or air switches, substation circuit breakers, loadbreak elbows and junctions, KWH meters, insulators and other related equipment and hardware; inspection of overhead and underground circuits to identify faulty or worn parts, maintaining, repairing and overhauling if necessary; working on energized or de-energized circuits to maintain or repair high voltage electrical equipment and systems; operating portable tools; installing primary and secondary underground cables in conduit and stringing or resagging overhead conductors; using testing equipment such as dielectric tester (Hypot), meggar, impulse generator, phase sequence meter, phase rotation meter, high voltage phase meter, multi-meter, and transformer tester; terminating and splicing high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre-molded splice kit (cold or heat shrinkable); operating substation circuit breakers and relays from 4160 to 12000 volts; inspecting wiring and fixtures for conformance to specifications or electrical codes; installing single and three phase kilowatt hour meters and interpreting readings; and using proper safety apparatus, including hot sticks, rubber blankets, line hoses, rubber gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and safety shoes. Full time position with benefits.  Minimum pay rate: $27.00 per hour.

Requires high school diploma and completion of a certified electrical apprenticeship program or 5 years of verifiable journey level high voltage electrician experience of which 3 years must be in the installation, maintenance and operation of high/medium voltage distribution systems; a valid California Class B driver’s license, confined space entry certification, first aid/CPR; and ability to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.
