Special Events Schedule 2007

The following describes parking and traffic impacts associated with special events occurring in the Presidio spring-fall 2007. Each year we accommodate many requests for use of the park and do our best to minimize disruption to residents and tenants. For example, whenever possible we limit large-scale public events to Sunday mornings before 11 am. For more information regarding any event, please contact the Presidio Trust Special Events Office at (415) 561-5444.

 

March

17-San Francisco Little League Parade. Parents and players arrive at the Main Post Parking Lot, Anza/Owen, to decorate vehicles for the annual season opening parade.  Expect heavy parking demand from 8:00am-10:00am, with about 500 participants.

18-Across the Bay 12k Race.  7:00am-10:30am, 3200 runners will be exiting the GG Bridge, traveling along the bike lane on the north side of Lincoln, down Long to Mason in front of the #900 series buildings and the West Bluffs Parking Lot, entering Marine Drive to Ft. Point, returning along Marine Dr. to the Promenade, to the East Beach Parking Lot, back to the running path and out the Marina Gate.

April

1- Guardsmen Presidio 10 Run.  8:00am-11:00am, 1000 runners will begin and end  the first of two races, a 10 mile and a 10k from Mason St. west of Sports Basement.  The course will follow a route which involves the following streets: Mason, McDowell, Lincoln, Ruckman, Storey, Greenough, Kobbe, Harrison, Hunter and  Washington prior to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge.  Coming off the Bridge will place runners on: Lincoln, Crissy Field Ave. and Mason.  Staff on site will provide intermittent traffic control to accommodate access and egress from the Ft. Scott area and Armistead area housing.  Following the race a festival will be held on Crissy Field near the start/finish line.  The following streets will be closed: Crissy Field Ave. downhill, Long, Mason from Sports Basement to the Warming Hut, Washington from Compton to Lincoln, Lincoln northbound from North Pershing to Merchant.  Expect heavy parking demand around Sports Basement and on the north end of the Main Post Parking Lot.

15- National Multiple Sclerosis Society 5K and 10K Walks.  7:00am-3:00pm, 900 walkers will start at Sports Basement, cross Mason to the running path, follow the path to the Warming Hut, follow Marine Drive to Ft. Point, return along Marine Dr. to the Promenade, cross through the East Beach parking lot to the running path and back to finish at Sports Basement.  10K will continue to Ft. Mason and return to finish at Sports Basement.  Mason will be closed to vehicular traffic between Sports Basement and SF Gymnastics with the exception of public transportation.  The Parking Lot at Sports Basement (less 100 slots) has been rented for the exclusive use of the event.

21- Avon Walk for Breast Cancer SF Expo.  Training walk for participants in the 7/7-8 Avon 2 Day Walk.    600 participants will begin various length training walks beginning and ending at Sports Basement.  An informational Expo will be hosted at Sports Basement.  Expect heavy parking demand around Sports Basement and on the north end of the Main Post Parking Lot.

22-Bridging Communities  .6:00am-3:00pm, 3000 walkers will arrive in the Park and gather at  Crissy Field to walk onto the GG Bridge and back to a festival (expect an additional 5000 participants) on Crissy Field.  Mason will be closed from Sports Basement to the SF Gymnastics to all vehicular traffic except busses from 6am-5pm.  Parking in all areas of the Main Post and the waterfront will be heavily impacted throughout the day.  Expect heavy traffic, delays and detours.

28-March of Dimes- Walk America.  8:00am-2:00pm, 1500 walkers will arrive in the Park prior to 8am and gather at Crissy Field.  The walk route will include Lincoln, Letterman, Lombard, Mason, Baker, Marina, Marine Dr. and the Promenade.  Expect heavy parking demand in the Main Post Lots and along the waterfront. 

28-Aids/Lifecycle “Day of the Ride”.  500 cyclists depart Sports Basement at 7:00am-7:30am traveling east Mason, south on Halleck, west on Lincoln to the GG Bridge.  Riders begin returning from the GG Bridge along Lincoln, Cowles, McDowell, Crissy Field Ave. and Mason to finish at Sports Basement.  Expect very early, heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots.

28-30-University High School Decorator Showcase parking and shuttle stop.  35 slots will be cordoned off on the lower end of the Main Post Parking Lot daily, 10:00am-6:00pm except Mondays. This use will have little impact on overall parking.

5-6-The Relay.  Relay teams will enter the Park from the GG Bridge on to Lincoln southbound exiting through the 25th Ave. Gate.  This event runs throughout the middle of the night.  Expect no impacts.

6-Aneurysm and AVM Foundation Walk and Social Gathering.  900 participants will begin and end a 5K walk at Sports Basement.  Park Police will provide pedestrian assistance as participants cross Mason from Sports Basement to the running path.  Expect heavy parking demand in the Sports Basement Lot and on the north end of the Main Post Parking Lot from 7:00am-3:00pm.

12-Girl Scout Golden Gate Bridging Ceremony.  7:00am-3:00pm, 5000 Girl Scouts will begin arriving in the Park.   They will gather at Crissy Field to walk across the GG Bridge and return to Crissy Field for a post walk event.  Expect heavy pedestrian traffic on Mason, Crissy Field Ave. and Lincoln.  Primary parking will be in the Main Post Parking Lots but will also include all waterfront parking, including all but 100 slots at Sports Basement.  Mason will be closed to all vehicular traffic except busses from 7am-5pm.between Sports Basement and SF Gymnastics.  Expect heavy parking demand on all Main Post Parking Lots and in all areas along the waterfront.  Expect high traffic flow, detours and delays.

19-JROTC Annual Drill Competition.  The Main Post Parking Lot from Owen south to Ralston and from Montgomery east to Anza will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8:00am, through 5:00pm.  Drill squads from throughout the City will compete from 9:00am-2:00pm.

 

June

3-Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.  3500 participants, 6:00am-1:00pm will run and bike along the northern and western perimeter of the Park.  The following street closures will be in effect during this time:  Mason from the Marina Gate to the Warming Hut, all roads intersecting Mason will be closed at Mason, Lincoln from Storey to the 25th Ave. Gate, all roads intersecting Lincoln along this portion will be closed at Lincoln, Crissy Field Ave., Long from Lincoln to Ft. Point, Halleck at Gorgas and Merchant will all be closed.  Residents of Armistead and Pilots Row may access and egress the housing areas via Armistead to Lincoln eastbound out of the Park.  Residents of Baker Beach housing will have access and egress through the service road at the top of Pershing to Battery Caulfield.  Brooks Ct. residents will have passage to the housing area along the northbound lane of Lincoln from South Pershing to Brooks Ct.

There will be no auto access to the GG Bridge during this event.  Bicyclists will be routed to Ft. Scott for a controlled crossing at Merchant at Lincoln.  Expect very heavy traffic, delays and detours throughout the Park until 1:00pm.  Marina Blvd. outside the Marina Gate will be heavily impacted.  Muni and Presidigo will have altered scheduled to respond to the road closures.

17-Camp Tawonga.  8:00am-12:30pm, 250 youth will board busses and wave goodbye to 500 parents in the Main Post Parking Lot near the intersection of Owen and Anza.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

17-Presidio Relay.  6:00am-10:30am, 800 runners will enter the park to begin 5K and 10K races.  The start and finish line will on Mason immediately west of Sports Basement.  Mason will be closed from Halleck to the Warming Hut during this time.  Muni will alter scheduled routes prior to 10:30am.  Presidigo should not be impacted.  Expect heavy traffic and parking demand on the lower Main Post Parking Lot and along the waterfront.

22-Camp Tawonga.  2:00pm-6:30pm, 250 youth will exit busses to be picked up by parents.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

24- Camp Tawonga.  8:00am-12:30, 250 youth will board busses and wave goodbye to 500 parents in the Main Post Parking Lot near the intersection of Owen and Anza.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

27-Presidio Pasados.  11:00am-1:00pm, 100 decedents of the original Spanish expedition gather at the flag pole to celebrate their heritage.  Very little traffic or parking impact.

 

July

 6-Camp Tawonga.  8:00am-12:30pm, 250 youth will board busses and wave goodbye to 500 parents in the Main Post Parking Lot near the intersection of Owen and Anza.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

6-7-8-Avon 2 Day Walk.  7:00am, July 7 through 1:00 pm July 8. 1600 participants will enter the Park at 8:00am on July 7, to Cross the GG Bridge and return throughout the afternoon to overnight at Crissy Field.  July 8, participants will exit the Park via the running path and out the Marina Gate.  Road closures on July 7 from 7:30am-11:30am will include:  eastbound Kobbe from Lincoln to Washington, Washington from Kobbe to Harrison, Harrison from Kobbe to Washington, Hitchcock from Harrison to Upton.  On July 7th, Crissy Field Ave. will be closed from 11:30am through 8:00pm.  Mason St. from Sports Basement to the SF Gymnastics will be closed to all vehicles, except busses, from 8:00 am on July 6, through 1:00 pm on Sunday, July 8, 2007.  Expect heavy pedestrian traffic along Lincoln from the GG Bridge to Crissy Field Ave.  Access to the #900 series buildings, Ft. Point and the Warming Hut will be severely limited throughout this event.

22-San Francisco Toyota and Scion 49 Mile Road Rally and Picnic.  7:00am-4:00pm 300 Toyota owners will arrive in the Park to gather on the Main Post Parking Lot near the intersection of Anza and Owen.  The vehicles will depart the Park for a recreational sight seeing drive and return to the Park for a picnic in Cannon Square.  The south end of the Main Post Parking Lot from Owen to Sheridan and from Anza to Montgomery will be reserved for the use of this event.  There should be no significant traffic or parking impact associated with this event.

29-San Francisco Marathon.  5:00am-10:30am, 20,000 runners will enter the Park at the Marina Gate and exit the 25th Ave. Gate.  The following streets will be closed during this time: Mason from Marina to the Warming Hut, all roads intersecting Mason at their intersection with Mason, Crissy Field Ave., Long, Marine, Lincoln from McDowell to the 25th Ave. Gate, all roads intersecting Lincoln at their intersection with Lincoln and Washington at Kobbe.  Residents of Armistead and Pilots Row may access and egress the housing areas via Armistead to Lincoln eastbound out of the Park.  Residents of Baker Beach housing will have access and egress through the service road at the top of Pershing to Battery Caulfield.  Brooks Ct. residents will have passage to the housing area along the northbound lane of Lincoln from South Pershing to Brooks Ct.  There will be no GG Bridge access from within the Park during this time.  Muni and Presidigo will have altered schedules and routes during this time.  There will be no parking impact due to this event.  Do expect detours, delays and road closures during the event.

 

August

4-5-Aloha Festival.  The annual Aloha Festival will take over the Main Post Parade Grounds and all available parking in and around the Main Post and the waterfront on August 4 and 5.  Keyes will be closed beginning on August 1 and reopen on August 7.  The parking in front of #39 and between #39 and #40  will be closed August 1 and reopen on August 7.  Pena, Canby, Sal, Graham and Sheridan will be closed on August 4 and 5.  Graham will be closed northbound from August 1 through August 6.  Throughout the closures around the Main Post Parade Ground, parking for tenants will remain available in the Main Post Parking Lot between Anza and Montgomery.  The Main Post Parking Lot and the Parking Lots between #211 and #220 will be operated as fee parking on August 4 and 5.  Assume all parking will be taken by 11:00am on event days and will remain filled until at least 5:00pm.  Expect extensive delays on August 4 and 5 around the Main Post, Halleck and the waterfront.  Detours will be posted to direct visitors to parking areas.  Free parking will be available in the waterfront parking areas.

10-Camp Tawonga.  2:00pm-6:30pm, 250 youth will exit busses to be picked up by parents.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

12-San Francisco Inline Skating Marathon.   6:00am-10:30am, 300 rollerblading -participants will compete in a marathon race along Mason and Halleck.  Halleck will be closed from Gorgas to Mason.  Mason will be closed from Marshall to Crissy Field Ave.

Access to Sports Basement and the Crissy Field Center will be from Young St.  Muni service will be diverted along Mason and Halleck during this time.  Expect heavy parking demand on all waterfront lots.

14-Camp Tawonga. 2:00pm-6:30pm, 250 youth will exit busses to be picked up by parents.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

16-Camp Tawonga.   2:00pm-6:30pm, 250 youth will exit busses to be picked up by parents.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

17-Camp Tawonga.  2:00pm-6:30pm, 250 youth will exit busses to be picked up by parents.  There will be heavy traffic and parking demand during the 2 hour period.

27-31-San Francisco Free Shakespeare in the Park. This annual event will begin loading on to the Main Post Parade Ground on August 25.  Parking along Keyes from Sal to Canby will be closed from August 25 through September 26.  Graham and Keyes will be closed to traffic on Friday evening August 31.

 

September

1-2-3-Free Shakespeare in the Park.  From 5:00pm on September 1 through 6:00pm on September 3, Keyes will be closed to vehicular traffic.  Graham will be closed on September 1 from 5:00pm through11:00pm.  On September 2 and 3, Graham will be closed from 11:00am through 6:00pm.  Owen will be closed throughout the month of September.  Anticipate heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower during performances.  Parking for tenants along Keyes will remain available on the Main Post Parking Lot throughout the closures.

8-Free Shakespeare in the Park. Keyes and Graham will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:00pm through 11:00pm.  Anticipate heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower during performances.

9-Free Shakespeare in the Park.  Keyes and Graham will be closed to vehicular traffic from 11:00am-6:00pm.  Anticipate heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower during performances.

12-Parking for Temple Emanu-el High Holy Days. 4:00pm through10:00pm Up to 100 vehicles parking on the Main Post Parking Lot between Owen and Sheridan and Anza and Montgomery.  Shuttle busses will be running continuous loops from this location to Temple Emanu-el.

12-JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge.  3500 runners will arrive at the Main Post Parking Lots and then assemble at Sports Basement for the annual 5K run.  All parking on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower and along the waterfront will be occupied by 5:30pm.  Mason Street will be closed from the Marina Gate to SF Gymnastics from 5:30pm through 7:00pm.  All streets intersecting Mason will be closed at Mason during this time.  Muni and Presidigo will be diverted away from Mason, McDowell and Halleck during this time.  Mason from Sports Basement to SF Gymnastics will remain closed to all vehicles, except busses, from 7:00pm through 11:00pm.

13- Parking for Temple Emanu-el High Holy Days. 7:00am through 5:00pm, up to 100 vehicles parking on the Main Post Parking Lot between Owen and Sheridan and Anza and Montgomery.  Shuttle busses will be running continuous loops from this location to Temple Emanu-el.

21- Parking for Temple Emanu-el High Holy Days. 4:00pm through10:00pm Up to 100 vehicles parking on the Main Post Parking Lot between Owen and Sheridan and Anza and Montgomery.  Shuttle busses will be running continuous loops from this location to Temple Emanu-el.

22- Parking for Temple Emanu-el High Holy Days. 7:00am through 10:00pm, up to 100 vehicles parking on the Main Post Parking Lot between Owen and Sheridan and Anza and Montgomery.  Shuttle busses will be running continuous loops from this location to Temple Emanu-el.

22-Free Shakespeare in the Park. Keyes and Graham will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:00pm through 11:00pm.  Anticipate heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower during performances.

23-26 Free Shakespeare in the Park. Keyes and Graham will be closed to vehicular traffic from 5:00pm through 11:00pm.  Anticipate heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lots, upper and lower during performances.

27-28-29-30 and October, 1-Set Up for KNBR Bridge to Bridge Run.  Keyes from Sal to Canby, Owens and Canby will be closed to parking from September, 27 through October, 1.  Graham will be closed northbound September, 27, 28, 29, 30 and October, 1.  The Main Post Parade Ground, Cannon Square and the small lawn area south of #34 will be set with tents and stages.  Parking on the Main Post Parking Lot will remain open for tenants.

29-Film in the Fog.  1500 visitors will begin arriving to park on the Main Post Parking Lot to attend the Film in the Fog performance shown on the west outside wall of the Presidio Theater.  Bliss and Taylor will be closed from September 27 through 30.  Infantry Terrace from Moraga to Sheridan and Moraga from Montgomery to Infantry Terrace will be closed September 29, from 5:00pm-Midnight.  Expect very heavy parking demand on the Main Post Parking Lot this day from 5:00pm through 11:00pm.

30-KNBR Bridge to Bridge Run.  12,000 runners will enter the Park at the Marina Gate beginning at 9:30am, run to Ft. Point and back to finish at the Main Post Parade Ground.  From 8:00am-11:30am the following streets will be closed:  Mason from the Marina Gate to the Crissy Field Amphitheater, all roads intersecting Mason at their intersection with Mason, Lincoln from Halleck to the Graham, Sal, Canby, Keyes, Pena, Sheridan from Arguello to Graham, Graham, Owen, Long and Marine Drive.  In addition, Graham, Keyes, Owen, Canby, Pena and Sal will remain closed to traffic until 6:00pm.  Access to the #200 series buildings, the Transit Center, Sports Basement and the Crissy Field Center will be via a detour around the Main Post using Funston, Moraga, Montgomery, Lincoln, Graham Halleck and Young.  Expect extremely heavy traffic and parking demand from 7:00am through 2:00pm.  All available parking on the Main Post Parking Lots and the northern waterfront will be occupied early in the morning.

 

October

5, 6, 7-Fleet Week.  No activities are scheduled in the Park.  Fleet Week performances will create extremely heavy traffic and parking demand in all areas of the Park from 1:00pm through 5:00 pm on October 6 and 7.

14-San Francisco Oyster-Urban Adventure Race.  This race circumnavigates the City.  350 contestants begin entering the Park at 6:00am and will be moving throughout the Park following a predetermined compass course until 6:00pm.  This event should have little or no impact on parking or traffic.  The design of the course will preclude any routes which will lead contestants into the lawn areas of the housing units.

 

November

4-U.S. ½ Marathon.  6:30am-9:30am, 2600 runners will arrive at the Main Post Parking Lots and the waterfront parking areas to start the annual ½ Marathon.  The course which will cross the GG Bridge and return will require the closure of the following roads.  Mason from the Marina Gate to the Warming Hut, all roads intersecting Mason at their intersection with Mason, Lincoln from McDowell to the Toll Plaza, Long and Cowels. Armistead and Pilots Row residents may access the housing area via northbound Lincoln to Armistead at the Toll Plaza or from Lincoln at the closure on McDowell to Armistead.  Egress is directed out Armistead to Lincoln eastbound or from Armistead to Lincoln southbound.  Cross Park traffic to the GG Bridge will follow a Kobbe, Park, Washington, Lincoln detour to the Toll Plaza.  Expect heavy traffic and parking demand early in the day with detours and road closures until 10:30am.  Muni and Presidigo will operate altered schedules between 6:30am and 10:30 am.

18-King Oscar Run for Healthy Bones.  6:30am-10:30am, 500 runners will assemble on the Main Post Parking Lot near Montgomery and Sheridan.  The road and trail course will cover many roads around the Main Post and trails throughout the southern sections of the Park.  Intermittent traffic stops will be enforced at Montgomery and Sheridan, Mason and Funston and Graham and Sheridan.  The traffic and parking demand for this event will be light and the intermittent traffic stops will be very short.
