Sections of Park Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail Closed to Dog Walking

To reduce the potential for coyote/dog conflict, we’ve proactively closed large sections of the Park Trail and the Bay Area Ridge Trail to dog walking. This annual closure is temporary; we’ll reopen these trails to dog walking in fall after pupping season ends. All 24 miles of hiking trails in the Presidio are open to people.

Presidio Picnic

San Francisco, CA (March 16, 2016) Off the Grid, Northern California’s most prolific network of street food markets, and the Presidio Trust, the innovative agency that stewards the Presidio of San Francisco, are thrilled to announce the return of Presidio Picnic, San Francisco’s favorite Sunday afternoon event, on Sunday, April 3, 2016.

Presidio Picnic brings together the great food experiences Off the Grid has become known for, with the Presidio, a former Army base that’s now a dynamic visitor destination thanks to the 20-year stewardship of the Presidio Trust and its partners. This unique and family friendly event is popular with both native San Franciscans and out-of-town visitors, and is set in an unparalleled location. Situated on the sprawling Main Parade Ground with a backdrop of the Presidio’s iconic red brick Army barracks, the market offers food and drink from 34 local vendors, and picturesque views of the San Francisco Bay, the City skyline, and the Golden Gate Bridge.

“We are pleased to announce the fourth season of Presidio Picnic,” Paula Collins, chair, Presidio Trust Board of Directors, recently announced. “This family friendly event is a wonderful way to enjoy a meal in the Presidio, and a great place to launch a full day of park exploration.”

Off the Grid founder Matt Cohen echoed Collins’ enthusiasm; “Off the Grid is proud to partner with the Presidio Trust and to bring delicious food to this amazing location for the fourth year in a row.”

Vendors for the 2016 season of Presidio Picnic include: Bacon Bacon, Del Popolo, DUM Truck, Beach Brew, Sugarfoot Grits, Grilled Cheez Guy, Little Green Cyclo, Nopalito, Ceviche & Co, El Porteño, Slightly Skewed, Fat Face, Wing Wings, Verde Vivo, Cholita Linda, Cochon Volant, Lucianos, Stateside, Girl Friday Zeppole, SAJJ, Sam’s Chowder, Ruru Soul, Powder, The Crème Brûlée Cart, Fine and Rare, La Marcha, Réveille Coffee Co., Scrappy, Shorty Goldstein, and The Whole Beast.

In addition to amazing food, a range of complimentary activities will be offered, including yoga classes, a Green Screen photo booth for “selfies” in front of one of the Presidio’s many iconic landscapes; the “Roving Ranger,” a mobile park visitor center with information about wildlife in the Presidio and free stickers and animal tattoos for kids; and park staff-led nature-based arts and crafts activities using materials found within the Presidio. The Presidio YMCA will also be on site once a month with their free Y Bike Learn to Ride program.

Presidio Picnic will have three retail tents; Yerena Farms will bring its delicious fruits and produce, Happy Moose Juice will be selling cold-pressed juices and nut milks, and Nosh This will offer their inventive chocolates. Off the Grid’s Mobile Retail Marketplace will also be on hand, selling a collection of stylish clothing designs that highlight the Bay Area’s foodie culture. Designed and printed locally, the new collection will include threads to outfit the whole family—baby, too!

In addition to Presidio Picnic, patrons are invited to enjoy the many activities within the Presidio, including 24 miles of hiking trails, eight scenic overlooks, sculptures by Andy Goldsworthy, the Walt Disney Family Museum, the Officers’ Club and neighboring restaurants, including The Commissary and Arguello.

About the Presidio and the Presidio Trust

The Presidio is a new kind of national park located at San Francisco’s Golden Gate. Once a legendary U.S. Army post, the park now offers world-class museums and restaurants, 24 miles of hiking trails and scenic overlooks with expansive views of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco’s city skyline, the Pacific Ocean, and the San Francisco Bay. The park also provides free public programs and events, a public golf course, the world-class Inn at the Presidio and the Presidio Officers’ Club, San Francisco’s most historic building, which features engaging exhibits inspired by the events that shaped the City of San Francisco, and influenced the nation. A wide range of recreation, wellness, and dining options are also provided by the Presidio’s 200 tenants. The Presidio is managed by the Presidio Trust (Trust), a unique federal agency created in 1998 to save the Presidio and transform it into a national park. The Trust generates revenue for the park through rehabilitating and leasing historic buildings, and now operates the Presidio without taxpayer support. In 2015 The Presidio was recognized as a top destination by National Geographic Traveler’s magazine “Best of the World” list. To learn more please visit www.presidio.gov.
