SHARE

Presidio of San Francisco (September 23, 2009) — The Presidio is playing host to a unique outreach and education event honoring veterans returning from combat around the world. Presented by the San Francisco VA Medical Center and VA Palo Alto Health Care System in conjunction with the Presidio Trust, the Welcome Home Celebration takes place Saturday, September 26 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Golden Gate Club, 135 Fisher Loop in the Presidio.

The event offers a wide range of services to veterans of the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and anti-terrorism campaigns around the world, as they make the transition back to civilian life. Veterans and their families will have the opportunity to sign up for VA benefits and services, receive health and benefits advice, housing and employment assistance and information on vocational training and family counseling. A wide variety of community service agencies will be participating including Swords to Plowshares, one of the Presidio’s earliest tenants; the Coming Home Project, Helmets to Hardhats, San Jose State University and Devry University. There will also be food, music, and other family-fun activities and entertainment.

“The Presidio has a long history of service to the country,” says Craig Middleton, the Presidio Trust’s executive director. “We are honored to be hosting this event at the Presidio and to assist the troops coming home with their transitions back to civilian life.”
