About The Commissary
The Commissary's Spanish-influenced California cuisine is driven by sustainable, locally-sourced ingredients. It also features a mercantile with artisan goods, including batch jams, local
cheeses, and bottles of wine.
It is located in the heart of the Presidio, and fittingly housed in the former mess hall of iconic streetscape known as the Montgomery Street Barracks. Built in 1895 and known colloquially as “infantry row,” the Barracks are adjacent to the beautiful Main Parade Ground.
The restaurant pairs authentic Presidio elements – such as lighting fixtures reclaimed from a historic Army gymnasium and Douglas Fir table tops fashioned from salvaged wood – with a comfortable, contemporary design. The Commissary offers a balance of traditional, communal and bar seating, dining on the shaded front porch, or “front row” seating surrounding an open kitchen where guests can watch the chefs in action.
The Commissary is a destination unto itself or a wonderful place to enjoy a meal during a day in the park. It is a component of the Presidio
Foods program, an initiative launched in late 2013 by the Presidio Trust to support its growing efforts
to welcome and serve park visitors. A catering and event planning component is available now, with more services and destinations to follow. Learn more about Presidio Foods >>
The Commissary menu honors the Presidio’s historic legacy with a food and drink program showcasing Spain’s influence on Northern California, San Francisco, and the Presidio.
The menu is driven by sustainable ingredients sourced from local farmers and artisans whenever possible. Each dish is thoughtfully created to entertain the senses with an array of colors, flavors, and aromas. Items change regularly based on seasonality and availability.
The Commissary offers
coffee and light breakfast service as well as dine-in and dine-out lunch
options. In the evening, the space transforms into a lively full-service restaurant. A full bar is
stocked with hand-crafted wine, cocktails, and beer.
