About Presidio Institute
The Presidio's historic Fort Scott district, once a training ground for Army troops, is now the backdrop for a new initiative focused on growing America’s next generation of leaders.
The Presidio Institute, a project of the Presidio Trust, is bringing together the best thinking from America’s traditions of service – including military service, civic and public service, and philanthropy – to “cross train” professionals capable of tackling 21st century challenges.
Leadership for a New Age
America and the world face complex, interconnected needs and rapid change on issues ranging from food to finances, energy to education, climate to crime.
All sectors, and the institutions that support them, produce capable leaders. But today’s challenges call for broader solutions, and too often our leaders lack experience and opportunity to work across sectors. Similarly, our nation has developed strong Traditions of Service, including military service, civic and public service, corporate social responsibility, and philanthropy. Leaders from these traditions contribute greatly to the common good. Yet, many lack ways to extend their impact beyond the borders of any individual tradition.
At Presidio Institute leaders will grow their abilities and achievements by connecting with others across traditions and sectors. They will gain skills and relationships that help them create positive, lasting change in a dynamic, multifaceted environment. And they will know the value of working with a high standard of accountability to society and self.
A Home for Cross-Sector Solutions and Service
Presidio Institute is being created in a setting that signals the importance of service and leadership as American values, and that inspires new approaches to social problem solving. Overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, it occupies a stunning 20 acres in the Presidio , an important former military post dating to the 1700s. Known to generations of U.S. soldiers as Fort Scott, these grounds provide an iconic, historic, and majestic location worthy of its new purpose.
