Experiencing the Main Post
A photo of two men dressed up as Spanish explorers talked to a group of children near the flagpole at Pershing Square.
A visit to the park begins at the Main Post, historically the beloved “heart of the Presidio.” When the Army was here the Main Post served as the social and administrative center of the post.

Today, the Main Post is a welcoming public place with destinations, programs, and amenities that help people experience, understand, and enjoy the entire park. There are many ways to experience the Main Post today, and much more will open to the public in coming months.
