Julius Khan Playground is a lively hub for families. It offers myriad recreational facilities serving both children and adults, and surprising views of the Golden Gate Bridge. Pack the stroller and get ready for a special time in the Presidio.
At the center of “JK” (as it is popularly known) is a recently renovated play area for toddlers and school-aged children. The jungle gym sits next to a clubhouse that is popular for birthday parties and other kiddie occasions. Restrooms and water fountains are nearby.
Julius Kahn also features athletic fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts, which buzz with activity all year long.
Adventures Begin at Julius Kahn Playground
The playground, located within the Tennessee Hollow Watershed, is a great starting point for Presidio adventures. Choose from the Mountain Lake Trail, the Tennessee Hollow Trail, or the Ecology Trail, and check out the amazing improvements happening throughout the watershed. Just a short distance away, young cypress trees are popping up, part of the Presidio’s reforestation efforts, and native plant restoration sites promise seasonal blooms. A brief walk north on a connector path leads visitors to El Polin Spring, with even more “learn and play” opportunities for adults and kids.
Though located within the Presidio at the park’s southern border along West Pacific Avenue, Julius Kahn Playground has been run by the City of San Francisco since 1923. To make reservations for the clubhouse, athletic fields, and other facilities, contact the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department at (415) 831-5500.
