Other Activities Requiring Permits
Some special events and activities require a permit because of the impacts they may have on the park’s resources or visitors. Examples include organized sporting events, concerts, festivals, and public spectator attractions. Special Events typically serve private groups rather than the public at large, affect traffic patterns, or require added law enforcement. Some elements that could trigger the need for a special event permit include: - Alcohol sales
- Attendance of more than 100 people
- Amplified music
- Road closures, detours, or intermittent stoppages
- Tents or canopies
- Valet parking or shuttle service
- Barbeque grills in excess of 805 square inches
- Use of liquid propane in excess of 5 gallons
- Portable toilets
- Rental sales operators
- Underground utility clearances
- Use of generators
Presidio Trust Special Events manages special events within the Presidio’s interior lands (all parts of the Presidio except Baker Beach and Crissy Field). To propose a special event, contact them at (415) 561-5444. The National Park Service Special Park Uses Group (SPUG) manages special events at Crissy Field, Baker Beach, and other Presidio coastal areas. Visit the SPUG website or call (415) 561-4300 for details on the permit process.
