Pay and Display parking machines are being installed in public lots throughout the Presidio. Visitors are required to purchase short-term parking permits from these machines. The cost for short-term, hourly parking permits is $1/hour and capped at $6/day. Regulations are in effect Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm, and are enforced by the U.S. Park Police. Regulations differ slightly from lot to lot depending on needs; please note signage.
How to use Pay and Display Parking Machines
Step 1: Park in a Pay-and-Display Parking Space
These spaces are indicated on curbside street signs or in regulated lots. If you do not see a machine, look to signage for parking regulations.
Step 2: Check the Hours During which you Must Buy a Permit
These are indicated on street signs (e.g. 7 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday). Parking is free if you park outside of the indicated hours, if the lot is not regulated, or if it is a federal holiday.
Step 3: Buy a Permit
Pay and Display machines are located within clear site at any regulated hourly parking lot. To buy a ticket, follow the instructions on the machine. If the machine is out of order, find another machine within the same zone. If this is not possible, contact us at (415) 561-5474.
· Select duration of parking
· Insert payment (cash or charge)
· Make sure to retrieve your permit and receipt (two pieces of paper) from the ticket dispensing cup on the lower front of the machine.
Step 4: Place the Ticket Inside your Car
Return to your vehicle. Place the permit on your dash board with the date and time visible through the windshield. For a motorcycle, place the permit in a visible location. Keep the receipt with you for your records.
Please remember:
If you still have time left on your ticket you can use it elsewhere.
You are allowed to park in areas with combined Pay and Display and Residential Permit Parking. Parking spaces are not reserved in these lots, so you can park anywhere.
