Presidio’s Greatest Lists: New Year’s Resolutions

Friday, Jan 06, 2017 Category Nature and Science; Recreation and Wellness; Volunteering

It's a new year and the perfect time for a fresh start. If you're looking to kick your resolutions into high gear while spending time in the park, here are five ideas for activating your body, rejuvenating your mind, and beginning a new chapter.

Get in Shape

Get in Shape

The Presidio has 24 miles of trails for hiking, 15 miles of bikeways, a world-renown beach, great for surfing and an outdoor work out, and indoor fitness facilities – like the Presidio YMCA, Planet Granite rock climbing gym, House of Air, and San Francisco CrossFit – to get you moving. It's almost easier to work out in the Presidio than it is to make excuses for why you're not working out.

Give Back

Give Back

From planting native seedlings, to maintaining trails, to helping the archaeology team on an active dig, to sharing your knowledge with park visitors as a docent, there are so many ways to volunteer in the Presidio.

Learn Something New

Learn Something New

Get inspired by art, culture, history, and current events at the Presidio Officers' Club. Every Thursday at 6 pm, the Presidio Dialogues series engages authors, artists, and other notable speakers with entertaining and informative talks, panels, and films that'll get your wheels turning. And the monthly Presidio Book Club series, led by Presidio Trust historian Barbara Berglund, is a chance for book lovers to connect past events to today's trends.

Get Unplugged

Get Unplugged

A walk through the Presidio will reset your mind and transport you away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. While you may be tempted to take a selfie in the woods, we recommend keeping your phone in your backpack and enjoying the park completely unplugged. Scenic overlooks throughout the Presidio provide places to let your body relax and your mind wander while you take in the extraordinary views and the natural wonders around you.

Make a Commitment

Make a Commitment

Tis the season for putting a ring on it. A national park is an unforgettable place to pop the question or tie the knot. Choose your backdrop for that special proposal, or save the date to say "I do" within a log cabin, a Spanish mission revival chapel, a historic Officers' Club, or other elegant venues in the Presidio.
