What’s a great way to exercise, explore Presidio trails, meet new people, train for the upcoming SF Giant Race, AND honor our those who’ve served our country? The answer is the Fun Run Series with Veterans!

This summer we’re hosting three runs. The first took place on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, and the second was held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. Participants had the chance to hear a little Presidio history, experience beautiful park scenery, and end with socializing, snacks, beer, and a raffle.

If you’d like to take part in the next fun run and get training for the upcoming SF Giants Race on Sunday, August 27, 2017, come out on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10 am to 1 pm. We’ll be taking an eight mile run over the Golden Gate Bridge, but there will also be shorter run options. Learn more and register for the upcoming run on Saturday, August 12, 2017 >>

The Fun Run Series with Veterans is co-hosted by Presidio Sports Basement, Giants Enterprises, and the Presidio Trust with support from Team Red, White, and Blue.

At the first Fun Run, we asked participants what brought them out.

Juan Carlos Bordes and Carol Lee (San Francisco)

Fun Run Series with Veterans in the Presidio

Juan Carlos: I’m trying to stay healthy. I think when you’re running in a group, it pushes you to go farther than you usually do by yourself.

Carol: I just started running regularly for exercise. It’s fun! I try to run in the Presidio every week.

Jen Nguyen (San Francisco)

Fun Run Series with Veterans in the Presidio

Jen: I recently sprained my ankle and during this recovery period I’ve been feeling unmotivated, so I came out today to find encouragement from others!

Ryan Tung (Daly City), Gordon Wan (SF), and Peter Mak (SF)

Fun Run Series with Veterans in the Presidio

Ryan: I’m a runner and a veteran, and I’m here to support my fellow veterans and to connect with the local community.

Gordon: I came out today because Peter invited me. The last time I saw him was two years ago. Events like this are a nice way for me to get together with the guys I served with. The Fun Run was also a great opportunity to meet other veterans and people in the community.

Peter: I’m here to get a workout, connect with the local community, and support the sponsors that help recognize us veterans and what we have done.

Kendra Rae, Miguel Hundelt, Scott Cruickshank, Selina Ruiz, and John Robertson

Fun Run Series with Veterans in the Presidio

Scott (center): I’m the social director for Team Red, White, and Blue – a veterans service organization focused on integrating veterans back into the community through physical and social activities. The past two years, we’ve partnered with the SF Giants for the SF Giants Race. This year we’re trying to extend our services and help out with the Veterans Fun Runs and the other activities leading up to the Giant race. We also like to run and, hey, they’ve got snacks here!

Morgan Hunt (San Francisco)

Fun Run Series with Veterans in the Presidio

Morgan: I came out to the Fun Run today to get a little exercise and enjoy the Presidio’s scenery. Oh, and I’m here for the food – and beer – afterwards, which is all pretty cool!
