Founded in 1995 as a concerned response to the increasing deluge of messages youth receive from television, radio, film, print media, electronic games and the Internet, Just Think is dedicated to teaching young people media literacy skills for the 21st century.
 
Presidio Performing Arts Foundation

Presidio Performing Arts Foundation's mission is to preserve and enhance young people's performing arts, with an emphasis on world dance, music, and theatre. PPAF sponsors the Presidio Dance Theatre, DANCE OUT! (after school programs for underserved youth), and Presidio Dance Theatre Academy.
 
San Francisco Film Society

The Film Society's Education Program introduces students to the art of filmmaking and celebrates both the differences and the shared values of the many cultural groups that make up our community. Year-round programming includes events, seminars and screenings as well as Schools at the Festival, which takes place annually during the San Francisco International Film Festival.
 
Walt Disney Family Museum

Cultural Conservancy

The Cultural Conservancy is dedicated to preserving and revitalizing indigenous cultures and their ancestral lands. Its scope is global and includes all indigenous peoples around the Earth. Its current programs focus on cultural preservation, language revitalization, environmental protection and education, environmental and traditional arts, and native health and wellness.
 
International Convention on Human Rights

The mission of ICHR is to educate people about the evolution of International Human Rights documents, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and European Convention on Human Rights, and to provide a process for individuals, organizations and governments to draft an International Convention on Human Rights enforceable in the local courts of all countries.

Health + Recreational Organizations
 

Julius Kahn Playground
San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department (415) 831-2700Julius Kahn Playground is located within the Presidio’s southern border off West Pacific Avenue between Spruce and Locust streets. San Francisco Rec and Parks operates the playground. It includes swings, sandboxes, lawns, tennis courts and playing fields.

 

JVQ California

JVQ CA is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide free vision exams and custom-made corrective eyeglasses for economically disadvantaged children who are at-risk for social and academic failure because of an inability to see well.

 

YMCA, Presidio Community

The YMCA operates the Main Post gymnasium, Letterman gymnasium and pool, Presidio tennis courts, and two baseball fields. Programs include child care, camping, youth sports, teen activities, swimming lessons, adult fitness classes, CPR classes for adults and teachers, and senior programs.

Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation

The Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Angel Island Immigration Station, and promoting educational activities that foster the understanding of Pacific Rim immigration in American history.

 

Battery Chamberlin

The National Park Service operates this 1904 coastal battery featuring the last 6-inch “disappearing gun” on the West Coast. Demonstrations are offered on the first full weekend of each month, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The battery also has a small seacoast defense museum open on that weekend.

 

Fort Point National Historic Site

The only Civil War-era brick and mortar fort on the West Coast, Fort Point never saw combat. Its location offers spectacular views of the bridge and the entrance to San Francisco Bay as well as a look back in time into military history and coastal fortifications. The site offers exhibits, video orientation programs, guided tours, demonstrations, and a bookstore.

 

San Francisco National Cemetery
Established in 1883 and the oldest national cemetery on the West Coast. Off Lincoln Boulevard near the Main Post; open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; it is not necessary to contact the cemetery in order to visit it. Park Rangers offer occasional tours, contact (415) 561-4323.

Exploratorium

The Exploratorium is a museum of science, art, and human perception, dedicated to the public understanding of science. The Exploratorium also transforms formal education by working with teachers in the development of new methods and tools for use in the classroom.
 
Foundation for Environmental Education

The foundation's work involves educational programming, energy projects, and related public outreach activities throughout the United States and abroad. All of its programming, projects, and activities include participation from environmental groups, businesses and industries, and government agencies.
 
Friends of the Urban Forest

Friends of the Urban Forest promotes a larger, healthier, urban forest as a part of ecosystems through community plantings, maintenance, education and advocacy.
 
Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary

The Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary encompasses over 1,200 square miles of ocean, bays and estuaries just outside the Golden Gate. The Association coordinates youth education; volunteer stewardship; and outreach programs, including a popular lecture series, "on the water" adventure trips, and visitor center programs.
 
The Leakey Foundation

The mission of the Leaky Foundation is to increase scientific knowledge and public understanding of human origins and evolution.
 
Presidio Recycling Center

Presidio Recycling Center provides recycling services and programs for tenants of the Presidio and other outlets in various communities of San Francisco. San Francisco Conservation Corps corps members staff the center and provide field trips for local school groups.
 
Presidio Water Treatment Plant
A single free-flowing stream, Lobos Creek, meets nearly all the Presidio’s potable water needs. Operating for more than 100 years, the Presidio Water Treatment Plant draws and treats this water, which is distributed to homes and workplaces throughout the park. World Wildlife Fund

World Wildlife Fund is the largest conservation organization in the world. For 45 years, WWF has worked to save endangered species, protect endangered habitats, and address global forces such as deforestation, over fishing, and climate change.

ARCS raises funds for seven Bay Area universities for scholarship awards to science students. Since its founding in 1971, the Chapter’s 200 members have raised over 10.4 million for 1,811 scholars attending seven northern California universities.
