High Voltage Electrician
Performs journey-level high voltage electrician duties, primarily lineman focused, for high voltage department engaged in construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage systems, and related systems for commercial buildings and residences; plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as pad mounted transformers, generators, vacuum or air switches, substation circuit breakers, load-break elbows and junctions, KWH meters, street light foundations, insulators and related equipment and/or hardware; inspects overhead and underground circuits identifying faulty or worn parts, maintaining, repairing and overhauling; works on energized or de-energized circuits to maintain or repair high voltage electrical equipment and systems; operates portable tools: gas grill, battery powered drill, reciprocating saw, jack hammer and chain saw; installs primary and secondary underground cables in conduit utilizing the proper tools, equipment and work methods; works in bucket truck, climbs poles; utilizes testing equipment: Dielectric tester (Hypot), meggar, impulse generator, phase sequence meter, phase rotation meter, high voltage phase meter, multi-meter, transformer tester; terminates and splices high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre-molded splice kit (cold or heat shrinkable); determines proper materials needed and installs to industry standards; safely operates substation circuit breakers and relays from 4160 to 12000 volts; installs single and three phase kilowatt hour meters and interprets readings; utilizes proper safety apparatus: Hot sticks, rubber blanket, line hoses, rubber gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protections and safety shoes; inspects wiring and fixtures for conformance to company specifications or local electrical codes; interprets Trust policies to workers and enforces safety regulations; interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to perform task; recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product; suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew; analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems. This is a full-time position with benefits. Minimum salary: $29.58 per hour.
Requires high school diploma and/or completion of certified electrical apprenticeship program or 5 years of verifiable journey level high voltage electrician experience of which 3 years must be in installation, maintenance and operation of high/medium voltage distribution systems; must possess and maintain a current, valid California Class B driver’s license, Confined Space entry certification, First Aid/CPR; requires ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions and procedure manuals; ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral diagram or schedule form; requires standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds, frequently lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.
