High Voltage Electrician Worker

Assists journey-level high voltage electricians engaged in construction, maintenance and repair of high voltage systems, street lighting, and related systems for commercial buildings and residences; assists in planning, wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as pole and pad mounted transformers, generators, vacuum or air switches, substation circuit breakers, load break elbows and junctions, KWH meters, wooden power poles, street light foundations, cross arms, insulators and related equipment and/or hardwares; assists with inspection of overhead and underground circuits to identify faulty or worn parts, maintains, repairs and overhauls if needed; works on energized or de-energized primary circuits to maintain or repair high voltage electrical equipment and systems with journeyman present; climbs wooden poles utilizing safety body belt and gaffs; operates Auger and Bucket truck; operates portable tools: gas drill, battery powered drill, reciprocating saw, jack hammer and chain saw; assists with installation of primary and secondary underground cables in conduit and strings or re-sags overhead conductors utilizing the proper tools, equipment and work methods; utilizes testing equipment: Dielectric tester (Hypot), meggar, impulse generator, phase sequence meter, phase rotation meter, high voltage phase meter, multi-meter, transformer tester; troubleshoots and works on street lighting systems with minimal supervision; makes proper secondary connections on system while energized or de-energized with minimal supervision; terminates and splices high and low voltage cables utilizing hand taping and pre-molded splice kit (cold or heat shrinkable); determines proper materials needed for assigned task, maintains hand and/or power tools, ensures trucks/vehicles are clean and stocked with materials; follows procedures to safely operate substation circuit breakers and relays from 4160 to 12000 volts; installs single and three phase kilowatt hour meters and interprets readings; utilizes proper safety apparatus: Hot sticks, rubber blanket, line hoses, rubber gloves, hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protections and safety shoes; interprets specifications, blueprints, job orders and performs task as required. Full-time position with benefits; minimum salary $27.95 per hour.


Requires high school diploma and/or proof of enrollment in a certified Lineman's course or four (4) years of verifiable experience of which 2 years must be in installation, maintenance and operation of high/medium voltages distribution systems; proficiency with pole climbing techniques; knowledge of General Order 95 and 120 standards; knowledge of OSHA 1910.269 regulations; requires ability to work at pole-top for up to 4 hours at a time; read and interpret documents; write routine reports; speak effectively; apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations; solve practical problems/deal with variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Requires valid California Class B driver's license and First Aid/CPR certification, and Pole Top rescue certification; must be able to obtain Bucket Truck Rescue, Confined Space Entry Rescue, and Flagging Traffic Control within 90 days of hire; regularly required to stand, frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally required to sit; must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds; regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock; frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and outside weather conditions; occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles; noise level in the work environment usually loud.
