Archaeology Lab + Curation Facility

A state-of-the-art archaeology laboratory and curation facility is being created in several small historic buildings adjacent to the Presidio Officers' Club. The Presidio Archaeology Lab  will be a place for discovery, offering a window into how researchers are "digging" into the history of the Presidio's founding site. Its location will support ongoing excavation and analysis at the archaeological site of El Presidio de San Francisco.

The new Lab will be housed in three rehabilitated historic garages and a nearby historic residence. The laboratory and adjacent outdoor processing area will be equipped to support research excavations. The curation facility will provide a climate controlled storage vault for archaeological artifacts. A public gallery will feature recent discoveries and highlights from the artifact collection.

The Officers' Club, located next door, will continue to house the Archaeology Lab's education program. Together, the Lab and Officers’ Club will support ongoing excavation and analysis and will invite the public to get involved in the process of archaeology through exciting visitor programs.

Stay Tuned!
The Lab and the Officers' Club will open to the public in 2013. In the mean time, there are many programs devoted to the Presidio's history. Visit the Calendar and select "History and Archaeology" or "Kids and Families" from the Event Type list to learn more.
