In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA), the Presidio Trust has completed an environmental assessment (EA) to determine
if the proposed relocation of the Sports Basement to the Mason Street Warehouses (Buildings 1182–1188) would
result in a significant effect on the human environment. We invite your comments (see below).
Sports Basement proposes to connect seven separate
warehouses located on Mason Street near the Marina Gate for retail and program
use; preserve and rehabilitate the warehouses in a manner consistent with the
Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation; improve ADA
accessibility throughout the site; and upgrade and seismically retrofit the
warehouses to meet current codes.
The warehouses vary in size from
approximately 12,000 square feet (sf) to approximately 13,500 sf, totaling
approximately 88,700 sf. Building alterations would include extending the
existing loading docks, inserting new door openings, installing ridge
skylights, and removing select interior partitions. Following the proposed
alterations, there would be approximately 93,000 sf of internal space and
25,000 sf of existing and new elevated exterior decks. Uses would include
mercantile, assembly and program spaces (both indoor and outdoor),
business/office space, and accessory uses (storage, mechanical, restrooms, and
parking lot would be constructed as part of the Presidio Parkway
project to the
south and west of the buildings.
1. Protect and enhance the historic buildings
that are a contributing feature to the National Historic Landmark District through rehabilitation and reuse.
2. Bring the buildings up to safe occupancy
standards in compliance with applicable building codes and the Secretary of the
Interior’s Rehabilitation standards for historic buildings.

will be made available for public review for a
minimum of 30 days before the Trust makes its final determination whether to
prepare an environmental impact statement or to proceed with the project. A paper copy is
