Preservation in Practice: Paint Analysis Workshop

Come learn about how paint analysis can be used to determine the various layers of history in just one small paint sample! Presidio Trust architectural conservators will provide an overview of how to take a paint sample from a building/feature, how to prepare it into a laboratory specimen, and analyze it under a microscope. Participants will have the opportunity to prepare samples themselves and analyze samples under a microscope and learn the importance of using this technique for selecting historic paint colors.

Paint samples from the Officers’ Club rehabilitation project will be used for this workshop. Help us
analyze the many interior & exterior samples taken to identify paint chronology in the building!

The workshop will be held in the new Archaeology Laboratory. Two sessions will be offered: 10 am and noon, with a 15 people limit per session. RSVP to rsvp@presidiotrust.gov.

In preparation for the workshop, a Preservation in Practice Volunteer Day will be held October 11 from 10 am to 12:30 pm. Click here for more details.
