Is Technology Getting in the Way of the Great Barrier Reef Experience?

 

Join Celmara Pocock Ph.D., lecturer in Anthropology and Australian Indigenous Studies at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, Australia, as she discusses the connection between human relationships and the environment. Pocock will draw from her doctoral thesis “Romancing the Reef: History, Heritage and the Hyper-Real” which she wrote at James Cook University in Australia with support from the Cooperative Research Center for the Great Barrier Reef.

Explore the challenges and triumphs of national parks around the world through Crown Jewels, a new exhibit at the Presidio presented by the Presidio Trust. Crown Jewels showcases five international parks through the eyes of experts, each with a lifetime’s work in that part of the world. Through narratives and striking photographs, learn about the challenges facing protected areas in Tibet, East Africa, Italy, Amazonia, and Australia. The exhibit is accompanied by a lecture series that invites the public to hear these remarkable stories from the researchers themselves.
